Post beating the Jets Mock Draft!

well don't expect any pipe dreams to be on my list cause a lot of guys we aren't sniffing...so even though i would love a mingo or a dmontre moore etc as a pass rush specialist i don't see it getting to us and so they won't be on the list...

there's another part to this that i'm wondering about also...with the improved play of the cbs and jimmy wilson in the slot does miami feel like with a healthy richard marshall a resigned sean smith nolan carroll continuing to develop that they don't need to invest a high pick in the position??? maybe...i guess we'll see what the next 9 weeks tells us...

I wondered about that too. We definitely need at least one more CB, but maybe they can afford to wait to until a bit later in the draft, and find another developmental corner. How deep is the talent at CB in the 2013 draft? Also, I'm curious as to your opinion on Conner Vernon as a mid-round possiblity at WR. He seems to fit the WCO, and he's produced his entire career at Duke, but I'm not sure if he has the athleticism to thrive in the NFL, and his good career numbers could be a by-products of Cutcliffes system.

Don't know if they'll see CB as a priority...would depend on Coyle and what he tells Ireland but depth is still an issue. We had to move Jimmy Wilson back to corner after asking him to put on weight to play safety...somewhere in the defensive backfield we're not deep enough. Whether it's safety or corner we need to address it in the draft and I would prefer we draft a CB and a FS. We'll have to look at the priorities though and what's left to fill after free agency. If we fail to sign some of our own free agents then the priorities list probably changes, conversely if we re-sign our key free agents and sign a WR or a DE then the those positions aren't as dire.

I'd prioritize pass rusher over a corner, but I still feel we need both. We haven't played the elite quarterbacks yet so I'm really curious to see how this team does against Tom Brady. We played Texas so early in the season that I'm not sure that's a great gauge of where we are.

agreed we need another corner...no doubt about it...but whether that guy needs to be a top tier one or a developmental one is up in the air at this point imo...and agreed we haven't faced a tom brady like qb either and one that really has a high end #2 wr to help gauge just how far along guys like carroll are in their development...we've faced some solid slots though already and wilsons held up well...

as for the cb depth in this class it's too early to say for me but i do like some guys in the top 50 or so and think they could help us if we want someone with day 1 contributing skills...the more i look at the talent in this draft the more i like what is likely gonna be available to us with our top 3 round picks...this team needs skill position talent upgrades and i see a good amount of guys i think that can help...

as for connor vernon i think you hit the nail on the head...not overly athletic what kind of upside as a pro does he have??? to me i see him ceiling wise as a #3 or more likely a #4 wr which we already have plenty of and i'm not interested in burning mid round picks on what i already have pretty much...there's also some concern there that like you have said he's a product of the system in college...anyways i'm looking for a top level win wr against high end nfl corners...so my focus is on those guys...and there's a couple slot guys that despite bess playing very well i just can't help but ignore at certain points if they were there on draft weekend...

Thats a very nice draft, IMO. Rhodes is not maybe having the season he had last year, but there's a lot to like and he's one of the few biggish CBs at the top end of the draft.

Eric Reid is a project, if you ask me. A lot of people wouldn't be happy taking a project in the first, but I would, for two reasons. First Reid is an animal, with big hit ability, instincts and decisiveness. A lot of what he brings, you can't teach. Second, Coyle is the perfect coach to fast track a project player. So Reid and Eifert are two of the mid to late first guys I would definitely buy into.

We're going to need to draft an LB pretty high. We need backup for Dansby and Burnett badly. Kaddu might work out but I wouldn't put the house on it and we need more irons in the fire. I like Kiko Alonso of Oregon a lot. Character concerns and the fact he's in the PAC-12 might Put him as low as the fourth, but I like him a lot. If he's the reformed character the Ducks would like you to believe he is, I would think a lot about biting. He needs to bulk up though.

I haven't been tracking a lot of other ILBs. Chase Thomas obviously, depending on what role you have him in mind for.

If Carroll keeps improving and we resign Smith, corner will not be a HIGH priority IMO.

Carroll has looked pretty damn good so far.

We are undermining what this Secondary can become under Philbin & Co...A CB or S have to be pretty special to warrant our 1st rd pick, in order to start over what we have today, but that may change if Brady tears them apart...what we don´t have, is a capable pass rusher opposite Wake, and an Elite-type WR, and Vernon needs work, so my choice would be Keenan Allen /Hunter/Woods....and Swope or Stills with the late 3rd...maybe even 4th

I'm curious as to where Knile Davis will be drafted. Based on talent alone he's one of my favorite RBs in college football. He's had the injuries, missed 2011 and Arkansas is pretty awful this year, but Davis was one heck of a back in 2010, great stats across the board. If he ends up getting drafted anywhere even near the 7th rd he could be one of the steals of the draft imo. Talent wise, he strikes me as a solid 1st rounder.

Let me know what you guys think!

I dont know what the fascination is with Jennings around here. The guys getting up there in age, is going to want way more than he's worth and he's injury prone. I like the draft but its really far fetched. CB's and WR's go early and often, especially in the late 1st/early 2nd range. With a premium on those 2 positions in todays NFL there's not much of a chance of Rhodes being there mid 2nd round when we'll likely pick. Thanks to the Colts winning a few games they probably shouldnt have and a light schedule, they'll likely end up 8-8. Id be really surprised if Rhodes, Wilson and Stills are there to even be picked where you have them going. I REALLY dont like taking a safety in the 1st round when you have other more pressing needs. Im not a big fan of Clemons but Id prefer to draft another premium position in the 1st. Unless Reid is the 2nd coming of Reed than you could do better with that 1st rounder. Id prefer to take a WR, CB, DE with that 1st rounder. All 3 of those positions are more important to upgrade than Clemons imo. I definitely dont think we should wait until the 3rd round to take a WR. The WR you have us taking (Wilson) wont be there in the 3rd and the other Stills, doesnt really fit what we need. I love Stills, Im an OU fan but he's not what the Dolphins need. Assuming Ireland takes a pass rusher/CB with our 1st, like I think he will. Just dont see him going S or WR in the 1st, I think we have to take a WR in the 2nd round, and Id like to see us take one with our first 2nd rounder or even trade up to the top of the 2nd to make sure we get a guy who can make a difference. We have plenty of "solid" WR's, what we need is a guy who can turn a short pass into a long pass, or a guy who can consistently make plays, especially in the red zone. Hartline and Bess aren't anywhere close to being viable red-zone targets. JMO

One more on the Dion Jordan band wagon. This guy is amazing. With his length he can deceptively close in on the an or ball carrier. He has the skills to line up and cover the slot or te. The guy might be the most athletic defended in the draft. I'd take him with our first if he lasts that long, forget about getting him after round 1 cause he's on the rise.

If anyone has a Bruce Irvin type rise in the draft it's Dion Jordan. Love what I see of him, so explosive and athletic.

Given the way Oregon uses him all over the place and his amazing versatility - linebacker, boundary cb, covering slot receiver.... And that his pass rush is good but not stellar, does anyone think he might actually be drafted as a hybrid player for covering the Gronk-type TE more so than a classic DE?

Yea he seems like a guy who put all over the place and give people headaches. I don't think his pass rush is that bad but he could get stronger.
