Pre- FA Signing Thoughts on Hickey?

Almost everybody on this board could have made the same moves Hickey has made up to now including Albert. I don't see anything earth shattering here. Talk at me after the #19th pick then we'll see...otherwise so far its been a no brainer.

Anyone performing any job should get credit for making good decisions and should receive criticism for making poor decisions. That is true whether the decision is obvious or not. Look at all the poor decisions bad GMs make.

This should be interesting. With Patterson and Carroll gone, we do need someone. Do we believe in Taylor or spend Big on a FA?

An excellent question for which I have no answer.

Agreed but, no way in hell can we fill our needs in the draft, and this is not the year to bargain hunt with the current cap situation. We really need 2-3 other good guys on the OL, and 2 at DT. FA has a ways to play out, and we shall see if the speculation is what Hickey is looking for.

I'm hoping for better, which still may come.

So far, on the bad side.

I gotta disagree. You build through the draft. Cant rely on other team's disgarded trash.

There you have it a ringing endorsemnt by Dan the Man Marino!!

And yes i know it is not Marino - shame on you for making me write this and you know who you are......................................

you really think Miami will give out names to who they want, before FA signing starts? unless they have all but a player signed, aka albert.

Some of the players in FA have been reported to have deals with teams, like Asamoah with Atlanta, Saffold with Oakland, etc.

I'm expecting and hoping we bring back Patterson on a prove it deal

I don't mind not paying Soliai or Starks but we have to bring in Mitchell.

The deal with Grimes is excellent

I like the Delmas risk

I'm not a big fan of paying Albert but so be it.

You cannot replace 8 starter with 6 draft pick, even if GOD was our GM. Well maybe he could. lol

I said this in another thread, but when you are a team flush with cash....Free Agency should be easy....if he picks up guys that fit the team's established offensive and defensive schemes (something that was lost on Ireland), gets good value and finds as good as or better guys to fill for the departing players (something else Ireland failed to do) then he gets a thumbs up. The biggest thing is to fill holes, but not at the expense of creating a hole somewhere else.

I really want to see what he does in the draft.....

Grimes is the same. Albert is a big upgrade. Delmas is about the same, maybe a bit worse than Clemons.

Mitchell and Ty Jackson wold be a HUGE downgrade for Starks and Soliai. Howard is worse than Clabo. Carroll and Patterson being gone leaves another hole.

I'm looking to get better with over $30M to spend.

So far pretty predictable. We need a fat boy on the line- we're getting one. We have a great cb in grimes- we kept him. In a little while we will see what else is really going on. As for pre draft he has done what is necessary

This FA will set up the draft. IF Hickey fills most of the needs, we can go S, TE, or ever WR (long shot) in the draft.

My concerns are getting better from FA, and do not see who we are "supposedly" targeting doing that. JMO

I'm all for Hickey signing no surprises. It would certainly cut down on the "ARE YOU NUTS????!!!" moments, which we all remember over the past few years.

Yeah, just think how bad Ireland has been...look at the player turnover on this roster now. A complete OL (except for C), both starting DT's, CB, S, RB, WR...I mean what the hell was Ireland doing?

Before judging, I would like to see what Hickey does. So far, nothing to get excited about but, it is very early.

Well, you CAN by trading down and what not, but I didnt mean replacing all starters with all draft picks.

IMO, we might get 2 impact guys from the draft. that's it. The rest in on FA.
