14 penalties each.

Defense:
Last year they couldn't stop the run... with Gardner/Bowens/Hand... in years past, there was no need to blitz. Last year, with Zgonina/Romero blitzing was a requirement, but not performed... this led to 31st against the run.

Today I saw linebackers blitzing, and multiple defenses. The DT talent is probably the worst its been on paper since Shula, but the scheme should compensate.

Linebacker play was improved over last year.

CB:
Howard got run past on a long ball. He is still slow. Maybe we should sign Ray Mickens. (Jamar Fletcher would be an upgrade over Howard)

Travis Daniels is very slow off the line... the first 4 steps. He is a work in progress.

Kris Richards / Mario Edwards looked ok.

Madison had a bogus pass interference call. He's still outstanding. Think Troy Vincent after we traded him.

Offense:
QB:
Feeley was unimpressive. He looked like the same quarterback as last year... Not great under pressure. No int's was a positive.

Frerotte had an impressive 12-play drive. Outplayed Feeley.

Rosenfells looked great against the backups. Not a lot of pressure, but he was smooth. Outplayed Feeley, but the jury is still out.

Berlin played ok.

RB:
Sammy Morris looked good.

Lamar Gordon stutter stepped less, so he was better than last year.

Travis Minor played ok. He is still a good outside runner, and a poor inside runner. Looks to be cut.

RW was unimpressive.

WR:
Not a great night. Boston was ok. Chambers was ok. Gilmore had a nice catch. Thompson and Booker both had a drop, but played ok.

TE:
Donald Lee had 3 drops

FB:
Jamar Martin outplayed Heath Evans

Offensive Line:
Center:
Hadnot missed a blitz... Mckinney got run over. Hadnot is in the lead.

Vernon Carey played ok, but gave up a sack. It seemed like the Right side of the line played worse than the left.

Last year teams kept blitzing us until we could prove we could block it. Unfortunately it was game 10 before we could. I saw much better blocking tonight... seemed like we blocked the blitz well, over half of the time. We have to do much better, but I was encouraged.

One problem I have is that Feeley played pretty well, I just wish he would step up in the pocket when a blitz comes from the outside. He was pretty accurate tonight too and derrius dropped one right to him. Frerotte still outplayed him a little tonight though.

Feeley played well??
:rofl3:

Well I already have this on another post but oh well,

Negatives- The D was ran through a couple times, maybe some more pressure would be nice too, even though it is a preseason game.

Not much of a running game. Ricky definitly looked rusty, hopefully that will improve because, he was stumbling alot on the field. Hopefully Nick will start Daniels to see what he can do, Howard was getting burned a couple times there. Lamar Gordon didn't really have much running room but he goes down too easily. Donald Lee dropped or fumbled another, pass the ball went out of bounds but if it wasn't and this was a reagular season game, that easily could been a careless turn over that Lee seems to commit a lot, because it looked like a fumble. Like I've already said The Defense didn't look to good to me, no pressure and Howard was getting burned. I hope Ronny Brown signs soon. The O- line did ok for pass protection, but as far as run blocking goes not too good, but it's early so I hope it improves, and hopefully Ronnie Brown can give a boost to the ground game also.

Positives- A.J Feeley didn't do to bad, but Frerotte played better what I noticed about Frerotte was how he wasn't shaken by pressure, and he was much more decisive with his throws, and more importantly he moved the ball. I liked how he knew where the blitz was coming from got rid of it quickly, and made some nice throws, or side stepped blitzes but still maintainin ghis composure and making a big throw on the money. He actually would have had two touchdowns if no. 40 didn't stumble iwhen going after the ball. As far as throwing goes, both guys threw the ball pretty well. Gus Frerotte's touchdown pass was off, but he threw while scrambling and there was alot of pressure, that was really his only off throw. I like how Frerotte was playing and he was split with the first and second string Defense, just incase you thought it was all 2nd string , he made nice throws against the first string, because he was in the last few seconds (the first string was still in early in the secoond quarter too) of the first becuase of Feeley getting crushed. The throw and great catch by chambers was against the first D, because I remember seeing Urlacher still in there. I also happy about how the receivers are doing Chambers, made a great catch, Booker just like in camp, wasn't flashy but caught a couple of mid range passes. Boston is looking good, and he played both first and second string also, He was giving Frerotte a reason to throw deep but Frerotte over threw him which was wainst the first string at the time, but then he made a nice move, on a screen pass, and made some good catches, he was making nice cuts, I really don't think it will be long before Boston is the no.3 on the depth chart, I actually think Derrious might not even be the no.4, becuase Gilmore made some nice catches, and could be a pretty good no.4 wideout.

I cantr make the call on the qb's yet. Lets see how frerotte does against starters.

I am worried about the CB position though, as well as the O-line. However the o-line at least looks deep. Some of those second stringers like middleton might win a starting job. CB is very weak.

A lot of words for nothing...

Here's the assessment... This will be another long season  Saban will be a miracle worker if he can muster 7-8 wins.

You know what pisses me off...when guys make statements like you did..

Did you even watch the game. I thought the QB play was pretty good all around for the first game. The Bears blitzed more than any preseason #1 game Ive ever seen. I thought Feeley made som very good throws..and had some bad drops by the recievers.

Your such an expert...you think Gus made that play in the endzone..or did the Defense just miss what should have been a safety.

Mario Edwards did look bad. Plus Eliand was responsible for 200 yards of offense. I cant see him being around.

Disagree the Wr's were pretty solid tonight, Miami ran the ball alot in the beginning which went nowhere, and Derrrious Thompson missed a catch which could've kept a drive alive. Gus Frerotte played a decent portiion of the first string D, and got Chambers on a 44yd pass, Booker had some good catches, and Boston was deep but Frerotte over threew him against the first string, Boston made some nice moves, especially the dive catch, it was nice seeing the replay so you could see the nice cut he made to get open, and the move on the screen pass was good, this is the first preseason gamew though, but I'm happy with the receivers, I like how Frerotte did, Feelye wasn't bad. But the D, overall kind of worried me though

Wow...you should be hired to coach..if you can tell that after watching all of one pre season game..hell of a talent evaluator I tell ya...

Feeley play well, he di not play long enough to say that " he was the same Feeley of last year " when he was in the field he did good. frerotte also did good, he had more opportunity to show himself, because he did play longer, Rosenfels and Berlin I tought they were also ok.
The D is off, the secondary needs a lot of work, the OL still not there yet, the running game was erratic. I did like the QBs and the WRs.

here is what will change on the depth chart if things continue as they were seen tonight.

A.J. played terribly. He got outplayed by Frerotte by a long shot. Rosenfels still appears skiddish against the blitz, and berlin seemed much more poised. At this point I'd put Rosenfels on the bubble. All of these guys need to know that we have to operate with the lead and not come from behind. Especially if they are the reason we're behind in the first place.

Lamar Gordon, invisible. When he was there he was indecisive. Ricky, yes unimpressive but he was pretty limited even though playing w/ the 2nd unit. (I knew Saban wouldn't put him against 3rd string so he'll be moving up on the DT). On the 1st play he was in they put 9 in the box, good thing we passed. If we can get Boston/Chambers as 1, 2 that will open it up for any RB in our pack. Minor looked better than Gordon, but he was playing against 3rd stringers also. At least one of these guys needs to be shown the door and I think at this point its Morris, maybe Minor.

Boston is going to move up to AT LEAST 3wr. If this team keeps thompson any higher than 4th we've got issues. Welker and Gilmore outplayed him. Booker had a nice catch but hes not going to outrun or outpower anyone. He's like a bigger slower keyshawn johnson that doesnt go over the middle.

The D wasn't stunning, but remember that we're missing two of our LB's and we're still sorting out the starting spots. CB is going to be an issue if Poole doesn't make it back. JT & co. better ramp it up on the line. David bowens getting hurt didnt help. That 5th round guy who cried in practice is definately not ready to play. He may end up on the practice squad if he cant play special teams.

Overall WR is our best spot for depth. Keeping 6WRs including welker may be difficult, but 5 will probably happen.

Special teams had 4 flubs, one the 15 yd penalty for Roy Willams horse collar, and welker caught a ball on the 6 and minor brought one out of the end zone, missed FG by Mare. One of the highlights was that Mare did have a touchback on the 1st kick.

McMichael was hidden from view and Donald Lee, well lets just say that Donald Lee better be able to hang on to the damn ball during and after the catch. If i'm remembering correctly, didnt he lose a few last year? PLEASE KEEP AHOLD OF THE BALL.

Everything else mistake wise were things that will be ironed out by the opener, but they've got some work to do.
