My point is that we were competitive in most of our games. Had Ricky not retired, we go somewhere around 8 to 10 wins easily. Now that he is probably back plus Ronnie Brown we are much better offensively. I'd give our defense a "push" in the improvement category. Sure we lost Surtain and Knight, but we also added a lot of veterans and leaders. I'm a little worried about Free safety to be honest, but every other position is solid IMO.
So to predict an 8 win season with a team that is better in so many ways (see my list) seems pessimistic at best, ignorant at worst.
I know what your point is but it's not as simple as that. we lost Chad for 3 games then he played the 2nd half of the year w/ a torn rotator cuff AND we played the final 6 or 7 games w/o our best defensive player yet we lost all close games except for 1. You guys have improved but not by that much where you'll all of a sudden win 10 games again. There is not a 6 game difference from last year to this year. You still have many holes that haven't been corrected.
So we haven't made the playoffs I think it's clear it was coaching and not talent, so since we have made vast improvements in coaching and upgraded the talent, I think it safe to say we have a chance at competeing for the division title.
Obviously, you guys were the most talented team in the league by far. It was all Wannstedts fault, he inherited a dynasty and destroyed it

Your talent has been vastly overrated for years, Wannstedt came in to a situation where he lost Marino and had NO good offensive players and yet he still won the division in his 1st yr and got you back to the playoffs in yr 2 and won 9 & 10 in yrs 3 & 4. Last year was not DW's fault. You can fault him for being dumb enough to get rid of 2 1st rounders for Ricky or for trading a #2 for a 3rd string QB or a #3 for a 3rd string RB but he did a decent job coaching the tam. I know it's convenient for dolphin fans to blame everything on him & Fiedler but that is unfair.
As for Nugent anything more then a fourth rd pick for any kicker is too high. There is no way on gods green earth anyone else had him so high on their boards.
really? minnesota was going to take him w/ their next pick which was only a few slots from where we picked.
How in the world can you give an honest opinion on the QB situation in Miami when AJ has never been given a fair shot as for Gus he has proven to be a solid QB in this league, not great!! But solid enough to make a probowl.
I have seen AJ enough, I saw him play in Philly, I saw him play last year. I'm not impressed and I don't think he'll ever be a good NFL QB. Frerotte has done nothing in this league besides be an ok backup for a year or 2. he has started 2 playoff games and combined was 25 for 75 for 375 yds w/ 1 TD & 3 INTs as his teams were thrashed both times.
BB has said Saban worries him more then any coach that could have been hired in Miami, if thats not respect I don't know what is.
He's also his best friend, what did you expect him to say? I don't doubt Saban will be a good coach but to expect it in yr 1 is not realistic.
Coaching is the key here for Miami talent has never been an issue, but coaching or lack of has.
Jimmy Johnson won 2 SB's and when he was in Miami they lost 17-3, 38-3 & 62-7 in 3 straight postseasons. I guess that was the coaching and not the talent, right? Your talent has been overrated for many years.
Ricky wants to come back something that never would have happend had Wanny stayed.
Ricky doesn't want to owe the dolphins $8 mil, he's only coming back for that reason. he has no desire to play and will be more of a distratcion than a help not to mention he has had only 1 good year in the league anyway so it's not as if Jim Brown is coming out of retirement.
Go back and read some of the comments made by the players here about Saban they all say the same thing they think he's smart and has a plan and a vision for the future of theis franchise and they want to play for Saban once again something I never read the whole time Wanny was here.
What do you expect them to say? I should know this better than anyone b/c my team has changed coaches so often, everytime we made a switch the players said what a breath of fresh air, how things were differetn, blah, blah, blah. They said it for Coslet, carroll, Kotite, Parcells, Groh, & Herm. Whenevr a coaching change is made players will say good things about the incoming coach.
Just crawl into your shell and keep thinking this will be the same fins team you've seen the last 5 years and when you wake up the fins will be a force not just in future years but this up comming season aswell.
Didn't you read my prediction, I think Miami will go 16-0. How could they not w/ all this talent and the greatest coach ever to lead a football team.
