Dump both coordinators.

Resign Grimes even if we have to franchise him.

Flip a coin for Starks or Soliai

Find Clemons replacement or structure his contract to include 8 hours a day of the JUGS machine in the off season.

Anyone know what kind of cap hit we'd take for cutting Wheeler?

Wheeler counts $6.4 million against our salary cap if he is on the roster; $10.6 million if he's not. It's not until 2015 to where he only counts as 4.2 million in dead cap space . . . 200,000 less than what it would cost to keep him on the team. 2016 seems like the first real cuttable year. His salary is 6.4 million and we only have 2.8 in dead space if we cut him saving 3.6 million.

You go FA in the positions in which we are thin, and you draft in the areas where we are deep. Offensive line is just not a good position to stick rookies. Even the best rookies, lately, really don't do well, so if we want to win in 2014, then we badly need veteran players there. Finding healthy ones is kinda tricky, but I can't believe it can't be done.

What other positions do we need veteran help for? A lot of rookie WRs struggle early, but I think we certainly have the depth to afford to stash and grow developmental, potential super-star talent. I think we badly need a veteran linebacker upgrade, We need a guy who can do what Wheeler was supposed to be able to do, or we hope that Dion Jordan is that guy and then we need a guy who can do what we thought Dion Jordan was supposed to do.
If we sign Grimes and Carroll, and can get Patterson back at a reduced rate, maybe, then we can draft better rookies again in the secondary. Ireland's love for drafting injured players REALLY sabotaged our team this year. It's hard to have faith in Jamar Taylor ever being a guy who can play 16 games (assuming he avoids an injury that would knock out any perfectly healthy player). Nolan Carroll has a fuzzy head so I guess he is a risk that would have to be mitigated by getting him cheap.
The only reason, IMO, we would keep Solai vs Starks is if we went to more of a 3-4 where your middle guy plugs it up. I love Solai's motor but I think Starks has more quickness to be effective in 4-3. Solai's motor might still give you an advantage. If we can get that additional high-quality LB I want then we definitely have to go 3-4 to maximize Dion Jordan.

There are some really solid S in the draft this year. I wouldn't rush to sign Clemons. I would try to keep McKinnie in for cheap though, let him finish his career mentoring your line (since the O line coach is terrible).

Bring back Grimes, Carroll and Clemons. Sign one of the two DT's and you roll from there.
