Price offered deal

The Dolphins have offered a contract to veteran WR Peerless Price, who is expected to make a decision today about whether he will join the Dolphins, Dallas or New England. Price was released by Atlanta earlier this week after two seasons with the Falcons. Price had received a $10 million signing bonus from Atlanta in 2003 after the Falcons acquired him in a trade from Buffalo, Atlanta giving up a first-round pick in the process. If Price signs, it's believed the Dolphins will keep six wide receivers, Price joining Chris Chambers, Marty Booker, David Boston, Wes Welker and Bryan Gilmore. Derrius Thompson is expected to be released.

Well, if that is the case, I hope he comes cheaper than Thompson. Personally, the only benefit he has is speed. Other than that, he is no better than any of our guys currently.

Price is a waste of money. We need help elsewhere on our roster.

Price warrants a 3 or 4 year deal with a signing bonus, minimum salaries, and incentives. After this year when Boston and Gilmore are gone as FA, the WRs look like:

starters:
Chambers
Booker

#3 Price
#4 Welker

I like the look of that.

But he did put up some good #'s when he was playing opposite a real #1 WR in Buffalo.

Maybe he can re-produce that kind of thing here with Chambers?

You think Boston goes? I would think if he is succsesful this year, he owuld want to stay. Welker may move up to third though ahead of Price when I am looking at your scenario.

Nice JJ, good thinking!

Its possible, I just think he was grossly overrated even to his days in Buffalo. Like I said, I like his speed and if he comes cheaper than the guy he would be replacing ( Thompson ) then fine, but as long as he realizes he will be no higher than fourth on the depth chart and even that might not be true (I still like Gilmore and Welker better ).

Boston is a free agent next season. If he performs and wants to come back, that's fine -- I think there would still be room for him. I think it is more likely that he'd move on to a different team where he could assume a #2 role and command a larger salary, though.

I think Booker will be gone next year.I see us signing Boston long term this season

Good point. If Boston has a good year, we most likely won't be able to afford him. Gilmore may stay or go depending on his playing time and performance this year and whether or not he thinks he'll have a better opportunity elsewhere.

Under this scenario, we'd also likely bring in another WR. I can't see Welker being used regularly at WR. It would be fun to watch, but I don't see him in there for more than a few snaps/ game.
