I've seen from Finheaven when it comes to a coaching hire.

Now Nick Saban caused the most buzz on the board, but I remember there being a lot of negativity.

There were those who liked Cam Cameron, but remember during that playoff game against the Pats it was reported that Marty would let his coordinators do whatever they wanted without his interference, and Cam went away from league MVP LaDanien Tomlinson. At that point a lot of people really turned on the idea of Cam as a head coach. There were also those who didn't want him due to his poor record at Indiana.

With Sparano there was a positive feeling, but a large contingent here felt he was nothing more than a Bill Parcells puppet. Hell, there were people calling for Tony to get fired after going 11-5

Yeah reading a few threads there is negativity, but the general feeling seems to be a good one.

I'm not too worried about Philbin not calling plays as he pretty much ran everything else for Green Bay's offense during the week. Philbin will also probably put together a pretty good staff.

No promises he'll be a success, but he's a good gamble to take. My only concern is on a humanity level and hope he's emotionally ready for the job.

Good to see the negativity almost nonexistent today both here on Finheaven and the national media.....feels good to be a Dolphin fan again.

dont get too carried away with the Finheaven response. If we lose a preseason game, everyone will be calling for Philbins head

I doubt it unless up to that point he turns the fans off like Cameron with his insistence to spend a draft pick on washed up Trent green or drafting a player like Ginn or Beck too high

Cam Cameron lost me at the draft with the Ginn pick and then that dumb *** comment about making the thumbs up instead of a thumbs down.

When I heard 'fail forward fast' I knew we were in for a long year. Philbin is going to have to work really hard to match that.

I dont remember any negativity with the Saban hire at the time it was a great coup to sign the college coach every one else failed to do

This is very unusual and I have to admit it feels good for a change. Looking forward to the presser to see what this guy is all about.

One step at a time. The pressure is on him to land two solid coordinators. If he goes with some knuckle-dragging rejects, people will speak up about it.

I'm hoping he brings someone from Green Bay that he's comfortable working with. Should help out as his personal tragedy was so recent, a familiar face that he can count on would be invaluable to him in Miami.

to be fair, Ginn and Mauia were the only 2 picks that people hated. Only knock on Beck coming out was that he was an older prospect, but even guys like Jaws were comparing him to Drew Brees and our own draft gurus back then loved Beck.

Cant say I am overflowing with excitement about the hire, but Im not against it either. I was hoping for Zimmer, but I can live with Philbin for sure, especially over McCoy.

Hopefully the next target is Flynn...

I know I hated that draft with a passion and of course some raved over it. I hate being right sometimes.

In hindsight, definitely an awful draft. At the time though, I was pretty excited about it once I got over the Ginn pick. I even rationalized how that could be a good thing after a few days. I really think that season was the beginning of the end for homer tylerdolphin.

My thoughts on that draft were ginn too raw and better prospects out there, Beck system qb that makes a living with Te's and rbs making his stats look better than they are., Solai okay pick but better players on board. Mauia why the hell do we draft a guy that barely played in college for Hawaii. Satale better players on board by far not overly impressive in college. Lorenzo Booker taken too high but had potential but passed over alot more proven guys.Morimino and Smith late round picks whoever knows.

I don't think that Joe Philbin will have much say about who is drafted that is going to be the Jeff Ireland show. Philbin may also not have too much say about his coordinators if any of the reports are to be believed that Ross and Ireland wanted a coach that will keep Bowles as the defensive coordinator.

Agreed. I thought Philbin (my prefernce from the get go) would recuse himself after the tragedy with his son. I would have been okay w/ Zimmer or McCoy.

Maybe, leaving Wisconsin and taking on a new challenge is just the catharsis Philbin needs?

How it works out I don't know. Yet, I feel hopeful about the change.

Kudos to SR & JI for being patient and getting a quality individual first & coach second.
