Scouting Combine week makes some think about 40 times and bench press reps. But true knowers of the game understand there’s an even more important number coming this week.

That’s right. It’s hand-size season.

According to Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, the latest size question about Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray is whether his mitts are big enough.

“There’s not a quarterback in the NFL that has a smaller hand than like a 9 — a 9-inch hand, the span from the thumb to the pinkie,” an NFC executive told Pelissero. “They say [Murray’s] could be really small, like 8 5/8 or 8 7/8.”

Speculation at best. They said the same about Mayfield last year and his hands were big enough

The Oakland A's have measured:rolleyes:....just needs a little research...

Believe it or not, hand size has a major effect on how well you throw the ball. It's not the only factor, but it is a major concern.

I bet they are bigger than Mayfields

Does hand size really make that big of a difference?

To a lot of people, yes.

To me, no. Not anymore.

The fact of the matter is Ryan Tannehill has small hands (9.0 inches) for the position. And yet accuracy, velocity have NEVER been huge issues for him. The only time I've ever seen those become issues were when he tore "something" in his shoulder. And Ryan loses a fumble every 4th game which isn't that bad, especially relative to the number of times he's been sacked in his career.

Drew Lock has the most arm talent in the draft. His problem isn't the 9.0 inches between his pinky and thumb, it's the 9.0 inches between his left and right ears.

Baker Mayfield is phenomenal as a rookie. Has 9.25 inch hands, and that's probably stretching it quite a bit.

As a finance/quantitative/risk guy I'm very sensitive to when I sense BS in the form of "the exception versus the rule". At some point, there is no rule. Just a bunch of people saying there's a rule. Especially at this position, which is (at the upper echelons of talent) almost entirely consisted of 'exceptions'.

I see! But in all honesty, I don't think this kid needs anymore "small" related measurements to pile on top of his plate.
Ofcourse, It's great for potential teams that want him to fall because of those metrics, but enough already!
Quit beating the kid up before he's even played a single NFL down.

I really hope he comes into the league and prove many people wrong.

Even if they are small, he keeps a grip on the ball and rips it just fine so....
