Put yourself in Ricky's shoes....

Just stand up in front of everyone and say, guys...the past is the past. No hard feelings. I'm here now and committed to the team. Let's win some ball games.

either that or: .........everyone over to my apartment, we're all gonna have a stripper/orgy/weed kablewie party!

First thing I'd do is bring in my laptop. Log on to some Bills fan site. And begin a constructive dialogue about Losman, and the time I saw him trying on womens clothing. That's what I'd do if I was Ricky. But hey I'm a loser. Why else would I be on a Bills fan site?????

to him, he played his heart out for the team for 2 years. and after a 6 year carrer in football he finally decided to retire. his timing was bad, but it couldnt be avoided.

so he retires. then a lawyer comes up and says the team wants 8 MIL. from him for breaching his contract. hes probubly thinking.. how can they do that? other players retire all the time, and they dont have to return all the money the team gave them.

now he is in debt 8 mil. almost impossible to repay. and now has to go back to work for that team. not just to work for them. but rather work off a debt to that team. basically being paid nothing. all because he wanted to retire and move on with his life.

how would you feel?

i wouldnt appologise to my teammates.
i would say:
"i wanted to retire. thats it. i no longer have the desire to play. and if one day, you decide to retire, make sure there is no way the team can get any money back from you. cus they will try their best to get that money."

thats what i would say.

More like "Gee team - I failed to follow through with my legal commitement to this team - left you all in a bad position - then went on national tv and laughed about it. Then, upon suffering some financial hardships due to my own poor decision making I have decided to come back. I feel I owe no apologies however. Good to be back."

You're right man - that would go right over.

Why couldn't it be avoided? He didn't have to retire. He just chose to so he could continue smoking.

Ricky brought all of this upon himself. You state it as if we should feel sorry for him or something. I know that I am planning for my retirement and in doing so, I'm not out blowing all my money that I'm saving on weed. Ricky made extremely poor judgements and he now has to live with them. Just as you or I would had we made the same poor judgements.

I would:

1) Stand up in front of my teammates and apologize for the hardship that they endured.
2) Admit that I made a mistake and that I'm trying to overcome it.
3) State my commitment to the team and that I will prove it by what I do on the practive field and on Sundays.
4) Ask to be held accountable for my actions.

.... i would just stand up at the end of the meeting and say " I'm back guys and I'm here to work".....

his retirement was a long time commin. he wanted to retire with the saints. he has stated that he didnt want to play football, and he only did it because everyone wanted him to. HE NEVER WATNED TO PLAY IN THE NFL.

he finally stood up and said that, retired, and was happy he left.

i do feel sorry for him. he might be a pot head, but i dont think you can say he blew all his money on pot. add up all the money you have earned in the past 6 years, and have your boss sue you for most of it back. you dont have that kind of money in the bank. (im just guessing there).

i think the team should have been pissed, but let him retire. they could have gone after SOME money, but i dont think it was right for them to go after the money he got from the saints. in the NFL its all about the signing bonus anyways. taking part of that bonus back seemes A LOT more reasonable than what the fins did. even if it was in their right to do so.

First of all, he should be mad at his agent, because he told Wicky to sign the new incentive laden deal that included a money back gaurantee in it!!

Secondly, if you were Ricky, and you said all that I would make sure I hit you below the knees the first chance I got.

I as a teamate, or a fan would forgive him on the spot if he just said one or two of these....

That doesn't make it unavoidable. Our front office has to take a hit on this too, as we should have given ourselves another option.

No, I don't (good guess!). True, he probably didn't blow all of his money on pot, but he had to have blown it on something (or somethings). To do so just doesn't make good sense for anyone who plans on having a future beyond their job. Had I violated a contract and my boss sues me, then sure, I would be obligated to give back money that I was given as part of an incentive to work for him/her. And had Ricky not blown his, he could've easily given it back and moved on to retirement if he so desired.

I wonder if would bash Wanny at all for the pounding he took week after week. I know we had to run with our QB, but the amount of times Ricky got the ball was rediculous.

You keep your damn mouth shut and accept whatever is said to you because you screwed the whole team last year.

If he never wanted to play in the NFL, why would he sign a contract that plainly stated he would have to pay back all his bonuses when he quit?

As for the Phins right to bonus money paid by the Saints.....the Phins paid for that right. 2 1st round picks.

Ricky - 8 million dollar debt = Ricky in Himalayas hanging out with Emu's hanging upside down.
