Quick question on Manny Fernandez

height: 6'2"
weight: 248
college: Utah

" Manny has probably his most outsanding game as a pro in Super Bowl VII when he was credited with 11 tackles despite being double-teamed much of the time. Manny compensates for his lack of height with quickness, mobility and strenghth. Came to the Dolphins as a free agent, 1968."

I met him in 1978 or so at Aqua golf in Pembroke Pines. He was really a nice guy, he put up with me and a couple of friends asking him all kinds of questions.
I just finished watching Super Bowl VII on NFL network....they said he had 17 tackles.

As I recall, when Manny came out of college, he was just 235 lbs at 6'2". He ballooned up to a robust 250 by SB VII.

NFL Films is a better source than a topps card

I would believe NFL films over a football card. But here is a link to the image. Damn card, I been carrying it around for 30 years and it is incorrect. Guess I'll just throw it away. (maybe not)

Manny was considered small at the time, I saw him being interviewed, his coach told him he wouldn't make it in the NFL "Manny you are strong enough to put a hole through that wall, the problem is the hole isn't big enough.
He came to Miami because of his Spanish name the problem was that his parents were from Spain (European customs) he didn't speak spanish.
Also his wife worked for an airline her plane crashed during the time of the superbowl, she survived.
This guy was something else.

Was watching the '72 undefeated season on NFLN (awesome if you haven't already watched it) and was wondering if anyone knows Manny's measurables. The guy is HUGE! Tried looking it up, but I keep getting an NHL player or some other guy named Manny who played for the Chiefs. Maybe some of the old-timers on here know?

Thanks!

For the record, the other two Manny's you're getting are:

Manny Fernandez - A former professional wrestler and football player for the KC chiefs, best known for tag teaming with THE AMERICAN DREAM Dusty Rhodes! (I'm a wrestling fan so that saying that excites me)

And then the other one is

Manny Fernandez - An NHL goalie for the Minnesota Wild (?) if i remember correctly. I dont know where he is now though, although i do watch Hockey.

If you watched him on NFL network talking about that, his wife wasn't on that flight, though she was originally scheduled to be. Unbeknownst to Manny, she had changed flights with another stewardess. He said he called his house anyway after hearing of the crash, he knew that was to be her flight, and she answered the phone. The stewardess she had switched with, ended up surviving.
