Quinn Ewers signs 4 year contract

Didn't move the needle for you? Upgraded both OG spots and infused a lot of young talent into the IDL. Not sure how much should be expected from one off-season, when options are de facto limited.

Edit: forgot the significant upgrade to backup QB. The team has put resources into the most glaring needs--the ones that undid last season.

None are so blind as those who refuse to see. - LOL

Definitely not going to consider tanking until mid season. If the team is 4+ games out of the division then maybe we hope they will trade some bets and give younger players experience.
So, you will want us to tank, sooner rather than later? - LOL

It seems like rearranging chairs on the Titanic to me

-No GM change although he has been failing hard for years now
-No significant coaching moves even though the offense has a serious issue getting plays in and there has been no 2 minute offense for at least 5 seasons
-1 step up and 3 steps back

I also wanted Herbert. I think there were a number of us. I was disappointed, but still always root for whoever we have. Even when I didn't want them. 😉
I did a Lot of defending Herbert round these parts back then, I was happy with either Hebert or Tua..

AIUI Ewers was the #1 recruit out of High School?
So what happened - or perhaps what didn't happen might be the more pertinent question?

They did address the starting guard rotation, but I feel they didn’t do nearly enough to address the depth. There were much better options than Eich and Borom both in FA and in the draft even up to the 5th round (Mbow). It’s not like the other options were going to be that much more expensive…so while the starters have a chance to be a good line, the house of cards is very wobbly cause it can come crashing down any time we have an injury, and I feel more could’ve been done to address that.

Agree that everything can’t be fixed in one offseason but I still would’ve liked a little more resources spent on quality depth.

I hope im wrong about Ewers, but I've always thought he was gonna end up selling insurance soon after his college career ended.

He's never impressed me and I've watched more Texas games the last two seasons than any other college team, trying to get a glimpse of Manning. Ewers never impressed me for one second.
He was injured each season, and injured in such a way as to affect his throwing motion.

2022:
  • 9/10/22: Clavicle sprain on left shoulder
2023:
  • 10/21/23: Grade 2 AC joint sprain in throwing shoulder
2024:
  • 9/7/24: Torn oblique (played through it for remainder of season)
  • 11/23/24: Ankle sprain

Sometimes guys are overhyped coming out of high school and fail to live up to the expectations. no different than players going from college to the NFL. We have one of those guys already in Zach Wilson. But other QB's who were highly touted coming of high school who had similar college careers as Ewers would be guys like Jimmy Clausen and Matt Barkley.

Thanks for that.
Living on 'the other' side of the pond, my HS football knowledge is non-existent.

Even if we were limited to pending free agents from the Bears, how they decided Borom was so necessary they needed to sign him on Day 1, while Matt Pryor and Teven Jenkins later signed for the same or less, when either one is obviously better than Borom is mind-boggling. While CB was a need too, I'm not sure Jason Marshall is a better CB prospect than Marcus Mbow is an OL prospect, and when Marshall was taken, Mbow was also available.
If we had Mbow and Jenkins now instead of Eich and Borom, I think most of us would be feeling a lot better about the OL.

Couldnt agree more.
