Raekwon's Rise: Mcmillan Is Healthy & Excited To Work With New Staff

Raekwon McMillan joined his teammates for the start of the offseason program Monday in a much different place than he was at this time last year.

A much better place.

And he can’t wait to see what that leads to heading into the 2019 season.

He was one of the few players last year that improved week in and week out. I could see him being used in a role similar to Dont'a Hightower, he could be used inside on run plays and kicked outside on passing plays to rush the passer. I'm excited to see his continued improvement next year.
 
I hope he can continue to develop. Loved this pick when we got him. Wish him all the best

It really is a perfect role as Hightower is limited somewhat athletically too. You go all throughout the defense and they dont really have any elite athletes, just smart players who know their role and where to be.

At both Alabama and New England played the role of "robber" in that he would cover the short and intermediate routes and cover the middle of the field. They disguise him a lot so he doesn't have to play a lot of man...I look for a lot of the same in McMillan as they both have stiff hips and limited range.
 
McMillan at the POA and his tendency to be swept out of plays, remain worrying signs to me.

I understand people will hold out hope on him. But his flaws were on display all of 2018.

We can only hope he makes strides in 2019.

This guy was flushed out the play routinely, but we dont have much else to work with.

Agreed. I do think he indeed did get better as the year progressed. But yep, still does have his limitations.. his coverage was still lacking, but maybe better coaching makes it a hair better. Still think he could get better at the POA too tho also. His strengths coming out were supposed to be he was a thumper with good instincts - those need to get better too

Great point. It's going to come down to whether we can protect him in coverage situations I think.
 
We can only hopes he gets better. It'd suck to see that we missed on yet another high pick

You can't ignore man on man combat. Its hand to hand, and he lost quite a bit of those situations.

We can only hope his skill set starts to produce. Scheme can help, winning individual battles is still very important. Or at least I thought so.

I'm not even talking about his coverage skills.

I'm speaking specifically about gap responsibility and being able to get off blocks.
 
McMillan and McCain were easily our worst defensive players last year. Time to be done with the Mc's
