Rapoport on NFL AM: Philbin appears to be safe but some other changes maybe made

So he lost his confidence from the qb? When? It's the coaches job to know if that is happening.

They all need to go. Bring in competition for tannehill next year and a new gm and coaching staff.

This group of bums cannot get it done when it matters most.

At this point, whatever changes come, then fine...but this team isnt getting it done. I wont be sad if we clean house at this stage. But I'd also be ok with giving Philbin and Co a 3rd year.

I disagree with the thought that Miami can't lure a good GM here if they retain Philbin. If you listen to people around the league, Philbin gained A Ton of respect in league circles with how he kept this team competitive during all of the distractions this year. He is highly regarded by many people in the league.

We need continuity, and I believe retaining Joe would be a solid move. However, Ireland and Sherman MUST go and it's not even up for debate IMO. With Chud being fired in Cleveland, Norv Turner will be available as an OC. Instant upgrade over Sherman. Then, bring in a GM who will make resigning Grimes and upgrading the OL his top priorities.

I want a long term plan. We have Ryan Tannehill. He is the future. Any GM or HC has to be able to get the best out of him. I think it would be crazy to move away from a WCO scheme. Any GM or HC brought in has to be aware of that or we may be hitting the reset button again.

Phailbin appearing safe just means he hasn't been evaluated by a new GM. Hopefully.

The new people around Ross should definitely know that no GM worth his salt will want to be straddled with a coach they don't want.

They allnneedto go . Philbin is a nice guy but can't seem to get the team ready to play

Carolina strongly disagrees with you. The Jets also improved this season under that arrangement.

One. Count them one has worked. NONE have won the Super Bowl.

Insight from Albert Breer:

2) Arranged marriages working for the Panthers and, to a lesser degree, the Jets. Last year, Phil Emery dropped the hammer on Lovie Smith even though the Bears won 10 games. The assumption had been that similar situations would unfold in Carolina and New York, respectively, with the coaches whom new GMs Dave Gettleman and John Idzik inherited. Safe to say, Ron Rivera has changed the narrative in Charlotte, and word is Gettleman has been impressed with the identity that's been forged. Rex Ryan, on the other hand, has another month to make his GM's decision a difficult one. And Ryan swears now that he's enjoyed the arrangement, awkward as it might've been initially. "We stand together, shoulder to shoulder, there's no doubt. He's been fantastic, no question," Ryan told me about Idzik. "He's been great, great to work with and great to be around. Shoot, it's funny; both our dads are former Jets. So we look at this team the same way and with that kind of drive and desire to get this team back where it should be." Can these arrangements work long term? Sure. But it's worth noting that, looking at the last 20 Super Bowl champions, there really aren't any examples of GMs coming in, keeping the coaches they inherit and winning at the highest level.

I could see with the Jets that Rex Ryan is defensive mastermind and has a following in the locker room. What does Joe have? A steady hand at the wheel running the organization? Maybe, but that is at best. That does nothing for me on Sunday.

Yep ... a steady hand while running the ship aground, is still running the ship aground.

I think he gets one more year with a new coordinator both offense and defense as the defense is more of a culprit i think for the collapse. Reminded me alot of those Wanny teams where the defense would fold like a cheap tent at the end.

Just think about the two losses we could never get the ball back due to the fact that we couldn't stop the run which in turn prevented our opportunities on offense.

Why do people keep saying the defense collapsed? The O again scored less than 20 points per game. Only 7 points in the last two games. We still cannot score. If we score 21 points during the last two games, we win. This team still cannot score 3 touchdowns per game.
