Ray Farmer the next Ozzie Newsome?

yeah and the Dion Jordan Jason Taylor comparisons kill me too, let them actually do something on the FIELD OF PLAY in the NFL before comparing freaking wannabe rookies to potential Hall of Famers, jeez!!

I wonder..we keep hearing these are all GM interviews. But..not from the team..and not from those men. Maybe they plan on hiring them for various positions within the front office..almost like a pro player development dream team.

If Farmer is the guy then why is it taking so long to allow him to get to work. Hire him already.

I think it's perception. Ross wants to portray a more measured owner than the one that appeared when he went after Harbaugh. That is what I think is really going on. He's taking a risk of course. Then again maybe he already has his guy(s) wrapped up.

What's so great about Farmer? Honest question, his biggest body of work was as KC's pro-personnel director and it was pretty average. What does everyone like so much? Not opposed to it, just not seeing why he's by most on this board at worst a top 3 option.

Opinions are like ... well you get the point. If he is the best guy, then I'm all for it. But, I don't really see any track record supporting that position. Xander seems like the best track record guy from what I know. If Xander and Licht turn down the job .... then we'll talk.

The perception is making him look aimless

The consensus from personnel people I've talked to here about the Dolphins' list of GM candidates: Ooooof.

Their opening is the talk of Mobile -- and not in a good way. Lots of head scratching.

Brian. Xanders. Only acquired Peyton Manning, Knowshon Moreno, Demaryius Thomas, Eric Decker, Julius Thomas, Zane Beadles, Orlando Franklin, Von Miller, Danny Trevathan, Chris Harris...

Xanders never had final say on personnel so I'm not sure how you can say he acquired any of those players. He may have played a role in their acquisition but do we know if he made the call to sign or draft any of those players?

That is true. I read somewhere he was given credit for finding Chris Harris one of the better nickel corners as an UDFA. Although he wasn't the one to pull the trigger, he was the one to set up the entire draft board. And they hit on most picks when he was there. Also Detroit had a helluva draft last year with him #2 guy in Front Office. Ansah first round. Larry Warford, future All-Pro guard in the 3rd. LaAdrian Waddle and Joseph Fauria were two of the best UDFA signings this year. Waddle started from the middle part of the season on at Right Tackle, and Fauria showed a lot of promise. I had never heard of Waddle until he started for the Lions, but I thought Fauria was worthy of a 3rd round pick before the draft. I know he was just a redzone threat, but he scored 7 touchdowns. More than anyone on our team.

Xanders seems to be the most qualified candidate from reading Ross' statements. He wants someone who is a team player and will put the team first (did that with McDaniels, and Elway) has a lot of experience evaluating talent (did that in Denver, and Detroit)

I read on here last week that while Farmer was instrumental in helping build the KC roster over many years, he is very religious and consciously tries to find players who are similarly committed Christians. I don't know if it is true, but I can see that being a problem for some. Many would prefer to not see religion used as a possible tool in player selection. However, it should also be noted that King Carl Peterson is coordinating and advising Stephen Ross on the GM recruitment. Farmer progressively moved up the KC Chiefs organization under King Carl.
