RE-thinking Eugene Monroe & The OL?

Facts? Says the poster giving percentages lol

Researh away but dont get attached to Monroe, he wont hit the market I can virtually guarantee that. The ravens dont trade for a player to lose him 3 months later for nothing

Facts? As to why you are posting your opinion, with nothing to back it up, as such? What do you base your opinion on? Are you a Ravens fan who follows their every move? I think not.

Pretty much...lock up Monroe long term and tag at the tight end rate pitta if need be...

Everything else be damned

IDK, they have $71M tied up in 6 players, leaving around $55M for the other 47. They can make some moves, like with Suggs, but the Flacco deal kills a lot of money. Tuff task for Newsome.

They didn't trade those picks for a one year rental without putting up a serious fight...the Suggs restructure to me isn't about pitta I think they already feel they can work the tag there...it's about clearing money for a run at their left tackle...

I think odds are slim he hits free agency like very slim but it's still more than the odds i think Alex Mack does in Cleveland...I see that as straight nil

If you're gonna throw around your little chirps at least get them right...I gave a percentage. There's seldom a sure thing in the national football league.

You may be right, don't know. I'm just reading what's available, and that says they were trying to work out an extension from 2 months ago. The freeing up of cap space from Suggs could make a difference. We shall see.

The iron doesn't really get hot til just before and during the combine...I think the timing of the Suggs restructure being just before they go the combine says a lot...

I think the tag date is coming up fast as well so Baltimore would like to get this Monroe deal done prior to that date so they can if need be tag pitta at the deadline the difference in the tight end tag and the tackle one being both significant and a major factor in how they will go about it on their end...plus if they let Monroe's representation get to the combine where other teams can express interest and under the table exchange parameters Baltimore will have it that much tougher keeping him...

I expect a flurry of moves this week and during the combine with teams retaining their own...if in fact that tag deadline is this week like I think it is

Miamis parameters with mike Wallace were put in motion at the combine last year...

I also gave a percentage but, it does not matter. We post opinions, and VG ones by me, while some others pretend to know more. It's part of the forum game.

On to more serious stuff. IF we were able to sign Monroe, how does that affect your other signings and draft?

The tag date starts tomorrow but, the option remains until FA starts on March 11. I agree that we will see lots of stuff going on when teams meat at the combine next weekend. CAN'T WAIT, I'm bored. I'm just hoping that Monroe is not something I will be reading about this soon.

Well ****...

I think signing Monroe would lead to a pretty quiet offseason the rest of the way. I think you see them sign a mid-level guard and then a low end guard or tackle too, just to fix up the line a bit. Maybe add another piece on defense, but really outside of the OL being addressed if we signed Monroe, don't think much else would be invested outside of retaining our own.

Even with the Suggs restructure they go from 12 to what 15 maybe more but that's still 8 or 9 for Monroe approximately and 5 for Pitta (or 6.8 tag). They still have guys on defense that are UFA's and a full draft of guys to sign. That team really strapped themselves with that flaco deal that this is gonna be another year they have numerous cuts of key guys just to field a team. Everybody calls Ozzie a genius but his choices last year were head shakers and to go and get a top tackle with barely any cap to keep him i dont understand. They would be better off with a Rookie or a cheaper FA at LT.

IMO which you have seen before is Monroe, Veldheer, Albert or Collins in that order, Asamoah or Shwarts, Zack Martin 1st round, Top RT or LG in 2nd or 3rd round and this team is 20 sacks better next year with a solid run game

The tag option is open all the way to the day free agency opens? That seems odd to me...there's usually not that long a window...

Seems like the retaining teams get a bit too much of an advantage retaining their own time wise before they if need be can last minute tag a guy...seems like the players union would not sign off on that

They had no choice with the flacco contract...it's overpriced for sure but they had no choice...couldn't tell the fan base we just won a championship but we are blowing it up completely even the in his prime off a serious high end play playoff and Super Bowl run qb is walking...

Did it strap em somewhat yes but they can make another run in the future with that qb...hell they have won plenty of playoff games with Joe flacco

They know who they need to keep and who they can cut bait with...

superbowl or not thats Brady money, thats rogers money, thats manning money. You cant tell me he is as good as those guys. Im not saying you let him walk. He had leverage but thats bad negotiating.

The Baltimore Sun suggests free agent Dennis Pitta could argue he's a wide receiver if franchise tagged as a tight end by the Ravens.
Per Pro Football Focus, Pitta ran 79.7 percent of his 2013 pass routes in the slot, the highest percentage in the league. The tight end tag is worth $6.7 million, while the receiver tag is $11.5 million. The two-week window for teams to slap franchise tags begins on Monday. In an ideal world, the Ravens could avoid this potential dispute by signing Pitta long term. A source tells the Sun, however, that the sides "haven't made substantial progress in contract talks."

Here's something else to stoke the fire with.

He was gonna be a free agent he was gonna be one of the rare in his prime guys to hit who was actually a high end performer he was guaranteed top 5 money as a would be free agent...

No choice...had the ravens by the short hairs...plenty if guys get top 5 money as free agents who don't necessarily warrant it...mike wallace for us is not a top 5 wr but he was guaranteed it on the market
