Reading this article made me so excited - WCO & smart coach vs Sparano & the Wildcat

playoff contention? your team self destructed and lost to miami, a team with no quarterback, the last game of the season. If anything your coach should be on the hot seat to start this year and if ya'll don't off hot should be gone by mid season especially if he continues to plod along with the San-chize if he starts hot or puts Tebow in when Sanchez sucks. The few logical Jets fans I know are pretty disappointed with Tebow.

You are blaming a TO in 2009 against NO for killing that seasons momentum? they still had a HUGE lead in that game and blew it then won the next week and 3 of the next 4 so the momentum of the season was not lost. You had a chance needing to win 2 of your last 3 against non playoff bound teams(2 at home) and you failed to win any of them. It had nothing to do w/ the NO game.

Rex has been to 2 title games in 3 years and had us in playoff contention last year so obviously he gets a pass.

You don't know Tony is offensively clueless since he didn't run your offense.

I haven't blamed Callahan, don't lump me in w/ anyone else. Callahan is a very good OL coach and Hunter had success w/ him 2 years ago. Last year he had no offseason, got a nice contract for the first time and maybe relaxed a bit? we also had injuries through the middle of the OL which didn't help. I don't prefer Hunter to start day 1 this year but I have seen him play well before and I hope he can again if he is our starter but I don't feel comfortable.

We were coming back from 0-2, evened out at 2-2 before letting that one get away. If we didn't , we would have had an 8-2 run before losing in OT to TN in wk 15 and very much in it going into game 15 already with 8 wins. The point is that was just one of many boneheaded field calls made by Sparano. Besides that, if Ryan wouldn't have stepped in after hearing opposing defenses cackle about predicting 3-4 out of every 5 plays, he'd be as clueless as Tony. Are you telling me Rex was as removed from the offense as he was from the realities of the cancerous clubhouse?

They still had a 2 TD halftime lead and they blew it but the season wasn't over. They rebounded to beat us the next week and win 3 of 4 to get back in the race. W/ 3 games left they had a chance to make the playoffs.

There's no guarantee if you beat NO that you beat us the next week.

what opposing defenses were prediciting 3-4 out of 5 plays? we had a rookie who struggled from time to time and he stepped in.

The LR stuff is way overblown, if the jets win one more game and make the playoffs we never hear of it, if the Jets had beat the Giants which would have kept NYG out I guarantee you we would have heard the same stuff from theior LR which was supposedly in shambles the year before and earlier in '11. Winning cures all. if this team loses this season it won't be b/c of the LR.

He called plays in 2006 when they had a top 5 O. How much credit does he deserve? I don't know? I don't think it tells us much either way.

To answer your question, to debunk Tony as anything more than he was for Dallas, I posted the following back in March which essentially pointed out that 66% of the successful plays Tony called had virtually nothing to do with him designing or executed by receivers he otherwise had anything to do with:

Sparano called the plays, however he was not an OC. Most of those successful plays were designed by Todd Haley as Tony was responsible for the RBs and OL. Considering there were over 3800 yards passing and 1900 yards running and even just calling Haley's plays, he had Terry Glenn and TO both with a combined 1250 yards, Witten 750 and even with the run jones and Barber combining for over 1700, the jets don't have the horsepower to approach that offense's potency. And then there's Bledsoe and Romo vs Sanchez and Tebow. Bottom Line: Sparano called plays where 66% of the offense reflected Haley, his designed plays and executed by a cadre of receivers better receivers than the jest have. The Jest were right in taking a shot at Haley, the guy who really was more responsible for the majority of the offense than Tony. But nice try. :idk:

Incidentally, Sparano did so well calling mostly Haley's plays in 06 that Jerry Jones gave that function to Jason Garrett in 07 where he actually put up 100-200 more total offensive yards.

Todd Haley's offense had elements of previous employers like Charloe Weis, Dan henning, etc... All coaches "steal" from each other. Tony has his playbook that I'm sure has parts Haley, parts henning and parts other offensive minds. Will that be good enough? I am anxious to find out.

It seems to me that NY offense will be more like miami's of the last few years and miami is going to try their darndest to be more like a Green Bay. Most of us know it will take some time to get our roster fixed but most of us actually like the direction of the dolphins more than the perceived direction of the Jets. What do you think?

I don't think we will be running as much as people think, I think it will be a balanced O leaning a little more towards pass. I hate the WC but Rex hates preparing for it and knows what it does to DCs and now we'll have the best guy running it. I'm ok w/ it but if Sanchez struggles I will hate the silly QB controversy the media is salivating over. As long as Sanchez performs I will be ok b/c all the other stuff will be pushed aside. I think Tebow will help us not just in the WC but also on STs and in the regular packages as a RB catching passes.

I'm not in love w/ the O but I'm ok w/ it. As long as the OL plays more like '09 than '11 I think we'll have a very good offense. I'm actually more concerned w/ the D but I feel better w/ our draft and FA.

Thanks, I read some articles stating that players say Philbin has a teaching mentality and Tony has a no nonsense grinding approach with his players. I. Wonder how that will work out for both teams O's.

Tony didn't call plays in Miami, he will here. I don't know exactly what to expect, I am going in w/ an open mind.

Tony's philosophy is keep it close and win it in the end. As much as I heard Jets fans complain about Schotty, it will be interesting to see their reactions on how Tony plays it close to the vest.
