Realistic expectations for a first year coach !!

Idont think we are going to have a winning year. All the great college coaches that have gone from college to the nfl didnt have great success. That could be overdue but I would be happy with a 8-8 season and ronnie brown just having a remarkable season.

There have been a number of first year coaches that made a huge impact. Parcells went 10-6 his first year in Dallas. Jim Mora Jr. took the Falcons from 5-11 to 11-5 in one year.

Still though, an 8-8 season would be considered a good year for us.

Having a healthy Michael Vick probably had alot to do with Mora's success. I agree 8-8 would be a good year. Parcells was an established NFL head coach, so I don't think he is relevant. Saban has surronded himself with proven NFL coaches which is going to help him out alot, but I don't think the team is very talented, and that alot of the players who will be on the team when they contend are not on the roster right now.

You just made a broad sweeping generalization. It depends on the temperament of the coach. Many in the media for the last several years have been saying that Saban belongs in the NFL (better suited to his personality). That is why his name had been brought up on numerous occasions for the last several yrs whenever there was a coaching vacancy.

I believe the thread title said "realistic expectations." 8-8 is as good as it's gonna get for the fins

I think you guys can win 10 games and make the playoffs as a wild card. If Saban is the real deal and he gets maximum effort out of the roster AND you get solid play from the QB position, you'll surprise a lot of people.

As for the Patriots.....talentwise this will be our best team. The question is whether we can adequately replace what we lost in Weis and Crennel.

It should be a fun year.

 I'm speechless.

Thanks for the props, though.

No one could recall a perfect season before 1972. No one thought a Rookie QB could win 15 games in a row before Big Ben. There are no realistic expectations in the nfl because anything can happen.
Thanks. We could be bowl bound. Probably not but who knows in todays NFL. Besides I always feel this way this close to camp.

Yeah I agree with you, but can anyone be surprised if a team goes from very bad to very good say like the Chargers in the NFL today? I don't turn this into a Bills v Phins thread, which it seems like most threads turn into, but as a Bills fan would you not be happy with an 8-8 season with a 1st year starter at Qb, and if the Bills did that, would Donahoe get an extension as he would have not made the playoffs in his tenure as GM. A realistic expectation for me is that the team finishes much better than it starts, say like the Bills did last season, although I could argue that the Bills beat a bunch of garbage teams other than the Jets. A .500 division record would make me exstatic, and give me alot of hope for '06. Feeley failing and not improving dramatically pushes my expecations back atleast a season. I think that alot of the players who will be major contributors when the team is a legitimate contender are not on the roster right now, but I think that Saban will turn the franchise around, even from the years when the team made the playoffs under Dave/JJ, but were not a threat to do anything. My guesstimation is that the team goes 6-10-9-7, depending on how things shake up. Perhaps if there are some major injuries the team will contend for a playoff spot, and I that would be great, but I would be much happier if the team could contend without the major injuries to other teams, then i'll have much more confidence in the team.

anyone who's been following the team enough knows we will be nowhere near 4 wins this year. Everything collapsed last year, we began losing starter after starter from b4 traing camp until the end of the season. WE have a healthy roster now so-far and went from a poor staff to one of the best. Our Front 7 has much more depth/talent.
Our entire offense can say the same. The only way this team could be as bad as last year is if Ricky and Ronnie Bail on us, WE lose our 2 of our top 4 wideouts, both our DT's, junior seau, our fullback, Half the O-line, and Zack / our best CB for a few months.

Wasn't Callahan a rookie head coach when his Raiders lost to Bucs? And Seifert was a rookie, but he inherited a pretty good team.

I would be suprised with anything less than 7 wins. I think Nick will have a huge impact. I hope for 9 or 10

Anything could happen, and we are all getting hyped. But maybe we should not cry superbowl yet, we should hope for it, and cheer for it, but not assure that something like that will happen.
