I saw someone defend Wannstedt earlier. Simply put, he is the main reason we are so horrible. It is obvious we don't have the greatest offensive personnel, especially on the line. Honestly, the best coach in the league wouldn't take this team too far. However, a good coach would be getting much more production. A good coach takes average players and makes them play better. Part of coaching is teaching your players to play, especially the position specific coaches. This is where Wise has failed as the O-Line coach. As for Wannstedt, he needs to learn to play offense according to the personnel he has. Our main strength is our receivers (Chambers, Booker, McMichael). Thus, a good coach would realize this, and play to our strength. He would not play to our weakness, the running game (poor due to the O-Line and RBs). With a poor O-Line, you can still pass. You just have to create better "quick" plays that gets the ball out of the QB's hands fast. If this was done, we can take advantage of our receivers, who are all good after the catch. However, Wannstedt's insistence on running the ball first is killing us. We CANNOT do it. We do NOT have the personnel for it. A good coach would realize this.

Perfect example...Don Shula. In the 70s we had a great running game with Csonka, Kiick and Morris. Hence, we were a heavy running team. In the 80s/90s, we had Marino...hence we were a heavy passing team. You must play to your strengths...not to what you "Want to do". This is where Wannstedt has failed. He wants to run the ball and doesn't have the personnel to do so. Thus, he has failed since he can't adapt.

Great post!

Start the "Fire Wanny" campaign today!!!

Put Tresman as interim head coach. Loose Wise, keep Bates and the defensive coaches.

Amen on the Wannstedt stuff! Can't really be pissed at Wise right now. It's hard to put something together in that short of a time.

Reason Wannstedt Sucks

Very well stated, although I'd go a little further along the lines of what you said. The root cause is that Wannstedt is, quite simply, a man of limited intelligence. All you have to do is listen to him speak. His speech patters are as repetitive and unimaginative as are his game plans and play calling. How many times have you heard him use verbal crutches like "from a ____ standpoint," and any number of other clichés and formulisms? And that's just one of many clues to his cluelessness. You really can't expect a man who relies on a set of formulae (I wouldn't even call it a philosophy), which experience should be showing him do not work with the personnel he has at his disposal, to generate creative ideas, or to react to what other teams are doing because of his simplistic tendencies, or least of all, to be simultaneously practical, efficient and deceptive. The poor guy just doesn't have the brain power to run an NFL football operation, let alone think like a Bellichick or a Parcells. His record with the Bears, and now the Dolphins, proves this. You are looking at a very nice, well-meaning, likeable guy with whom you'd probably love to go fishing, but who (unfortunately) reached his Peter Principle level of incompetence once he stopped being a defensive coordinator. I feel sorry for him, but I feel sorrier for his players.

Wanny doesn't like change he still has his Magnum PI mustache from 1983. He is in for a big change in his job though. You are right on the Money with Tony Wise, this guy sucks, any decent coach would yank out the loser and put in someone who wants to play.

Wannstedt is not dumb... HE COACHES SCARED AND MAKES HIS PLAYERS PLAY SCARED!! That is it, plain and simple.

Wise was the o-line coach for the cowboys back when they won all of those rings, so obviously he knows what he is doing, he just dosen't have the personnelto get it done right or the o-line needs more chemistry or a bit of both. I totally agree with the point that the coaches aren'tadapting to the personel they have. it's obvious the fins can't run the ball no matter who the RB is. But the playcalling has been the same as when ricky was the RB even though Norv isn't calling the plays. That leads me to believe that Wanny has a little more control over the offense then some would like to believe.
While most of what's gone on with the fins has nothing to do with Wanny (injuries and lack of chemistry/talent with the o-line) he has to take some blame for the conservative nature of the offense and the inability to adapt to the way defenses are playing the offense, as well as his prior failures as the GM. Either way, the fins need to make achange after this season because it is obvious that Wannycan't get it done.

My offseason mantra after Ricky left was, "let's see if he jams the square peg into the round hole."

This is probably the best post I've ever read on this site.

And when Zach Thomas says New England "played smarter," we now know what he was talking about.
