I saw someone defend Wannstedt earlier. Simply put, he is the main reason we are so horrible. It is obvious we don't have the greatest offensive personnel, especially on the line. Honestly, the best coach in the league wouldn't take this team too far. However, a good coach would be getting much more production. A good coach takes average players and makes them play better. Part of coaching is teaching your players to play, especially the position specific coaches. This is where Wise has failed as the O-Line coach. As for Wannstedt, he needs to learn to play offense according to the personnel he has. Our main strength is our receivers (Chambers, Booker, McMichael). Thus, a good coach would realize this, and play to our strength. He would not play to our weakness, the running game (poor due to the O-Line and RBs). With a poor O-Line, you can still pass. You just have to create better "quick" plays that gets the ball out of the QB's hands fast. If this was done, we can take advantage of our receivers, who are all good after the catch. However, Wannstedt's insistence on running the ball first is killing us. We CANNOT do it. We do NOT have the personnel for it. A good coach would realize this.
Perfect example...Don Shula. In the 70s we had a great running game with Csonka, Kiick and Morris. Hence, we were a heavy running team. In the 80s/90s, we had Marino...hence we were a heavy passing team. You must play to your strengths...not to what you "Want to do". This is where Wannstedt has failed. He wants to run the ball and doesn't have the personnel to do so. Thus, he has failed since he can't adapt.
