Redskins chase Edwards.

Here is some more good info.

49ers mum; ‘Skins raging as clock ticks louder… New San Francisco head coach Mike Nolan has reportedly discovered the way to plug any leaks as to what the 49ers are going to do with the first pick at the 2005 draft, now just 26 hours away. Nolan says he knows what he’s going to do, but hasn’t told anyone else; not the team owners, not the personnel department head, not his wife, and presumably not even his dog. The 49ers, of course, are expected to choose between junior QBs Alex Smith of Utah and California’s Aaron Rodgers for the player they’ll select first overall, but San Francisco’s once dead hopes of trading the #1 pick may have a late pulse albeit a very faint one. That’s because of the emergence of Washington as a serious suitor for one of the top picks; the Redskins have made little secret in the past day or so that they would be willing to package the 9th pick overall, their own first rounder, along with the 25th pick acquired from Denver earlier this week, to move up into the top 3-4 picks in order to acquire Michigan WR Braylon Edwards, arguably the top-rated player at any position in the 2005 draft class. Indeed, there are even some rumblings that the Redskins could sweeten the pot with veteran WR Rod Gardner whom they have been trying to shop the past couple of months. While they have reportedly talked with each of the four teams at the very top of tomorrow’s draft board, the Redskins appear to have focused in on Miami, which holds the second pick overall, as their main target. That would be, though, assuming the 49ers took Utah’s Smith with the #1 pick overall. San Francisco’s Nolan, however, may be playing one last gasp effort to convince Washington that just maybe the 49ers will take Edwards themselves forcing the Redskins to move all the way up to #1. Nolan, for example, hinted that he’s still not sure either of the two QBs is the best player in the draft saying “that’s what I really want to be convinced of…†Meanwhile, Minnesota, one of the other teams thought to be looking to move up to grab Edwards is downplaying the likelihood they’ll make a big move. While the Redskins appear quite willing to give up both their #1 picks to make such a move, the Vikings, which have the 7th and 18th picks overall, are more than reluctant to give up the second #1. In the end, if the Vikings want a big-time receiver, they may be forced to settle for a trade up with Cleveland at #3 or Chicago at #4 to get Mike Williams of Southern California as a consolation prize. The dark horse in all this dealing is Tampa Bay, which has the 5th pick overall, but has also made noises about moving up, although its not totally clear who they are actually after. There have been reports that the Buccaneers have talked with Miami about the #2 pick in order to acquire QB Smith; the Bucs, though, have also been associated with interest to move up to get Edwards, plus there is a report the Buccaneers might swap with Cleveland at #3 to jump ahead of the Bears to grab Auburn RB Ronnie Brown. For its part, Chicago has been rather quiet, but has fielded a few calls about moving down. The Bears want a RB and with three on the board they could afford to drop down several spots and still get one of the trio. The Bears are also reportedly very interested in Auburn QB Jason Campbell, whom they may target with their second round pick, although there is enough interest in Campbell that they might have to move into the latter part of the opening round to ensure getting him

That article basically says that it is Smith, Edwards or trade down. No other options.

That article is just a testament to the fact that unlike the Niners, the Dolphins have used misdirection in the most effective possible way. One of those two may well be our pick. I don't think it is going to shock anybody here if our true pick is somebody else if we don't move down.

Yeah, I agree with you, I was just shocked to see such a statement.

I like this trade probably the most of all if it's for the #9, #25, and their second next year. The Redskins however would be dumb to make this move, because then they'd have no first or second rounder next year, along with only the #2 this year in the first three rounds. Next year they'd only have a 3rd rounder to work with. This trade doesn't make sense for the Redskins.
