"I don't think we handled it well," Bush said following the loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. "Come game time, we didn't look good. This is something we're going to have to go back to the drawing board and learn from our mistakes. We're going to have to get better, because in two weeks, we're playing a pretty good team."

That pretty good team is the AFC East defending champions New England Patriots, led by the NFL's first ever unanimous AP MVP, quarterback Tom Brady. And, not only are the Dolphins facing "a pretty good team," but they are doing it in prime time, on Monday Night Football, on opening week.

If Bush, and the rest of the running game, don't get back to the drawing board soon, the entire NFL is going to get a prime time view of how bad a power running team MIami really is.

"We've been practicing every day. At this stage, we shouldn't be having these mistakes we've been having," Bush stated. "Whether it's a misblock or a misread, or a dropped catch, incomplete, fumbled ball. Those things we can't have. We've got to limit those mistakes. If we want to be a premiere team in this league, we can't have those.

"We have a good team," he continued. "A really good team, and I'm not just being biased because I'm on the team. I thought we did some really good things [Saturday]. We missed a lot of opportunities because we beat ourselves. It wasn't like they stopped us."

A lot of those mistakes, the opportunities the Dolphins missed , included a little yellow handkerchief being thrown on to the field. The Dolphins were whistled for penalties 11 times, racking up 76 free yards for the Buccaneers.

"It was the penalties," Bush admitted. "A screen catch [is dropped] by me, or a turnover by Brandon [Marshall]. Little things like that hurt us. Penalties are something we can't have against a good team. Especially in the division we play in."

Bush has identified the majority of the problems the Dolphins had on Saturday. The real question now is, can the team fix them before Thursday's preseason finale against the Cowboys? Or, even more importantly, can they fix them before Week 1 against the Patriots?

If not, this power running team may need a new identity.

ehhh...i saw some old school reggie bush in the tampa game...reggie if you're gonna be a featured back and run between the tackles you got to take sometimes what the defense gives you and drop your head and go north and south...not bounce stuff outside and try to gain the corner when there's no real light in the middle of the field...thats how you end up with negative yardage results

you want to be a featured ball carrier you got to play like one...get vertical and take what the d gives you...

Concerning our running plays, outside of the O-line sucking, have we run any toss plays or pulled the guards (not that they can do it) to run to the outside? If we have I don't remember it. Seems like all we're showing right now are runs between the tackles. Why not utilize Reggie's speed?

i don't understand why daniel thomas isn't the primary between the tackles rb anyways...he's the make one cut and get vertical back in this offense anyways...take advantage of his feet and vision and stop trying to make reggie something he's not

I saw Reggie Break outside which he shouldn't but he broke tackles and got positive yards. He carried one DT in his back. In my eyes which I can be wrong but he has looked pretty good and I wasn't even close to a believer of his up the gut running. If oline improves and if he stays healthy he might work out up the gut at times. But I do agree we need to get him plays that connects hand and hand with his speed. If non of these other RBs work out it will look bad since we could have kept either R. Brown or R. Williams or even sign one back like a Barber. Well in time let's see if I sell Reggies stock lmao but I'm buying at moment.

running bush inside repeatedly is a ticking time bomb...won't be long before it goes kaboom...and we'll be watching him limp to the sidelines

because of all the times he hasn't been hurt running up the middle?

because of all the times he hasn't been hurt running up the middle?

how much running inside did he do in new orleans??? they knew better...we'll learn likely the hard way...running him between the tackles even 10 times a game is playin with fire...more contact more opportunity for the whole defense to pile on him etc...he doesn't have the lower half to take on these guys in a downhill capacity repeatedly

i just would like to see us pick and choose when we do it...but not think this guys gonna be able to flip the switch and become all the sudden a downhill guy...its not gonna work...

We are getting no push...Our running backs are getting hit in the backfield quite a bit....
