I want the rushing title,” said Bush, via Omar Kelly of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. “This offseason I’ve been working towards that goal. Just being effective like I was this past season. Every time I rush the ball I want four yards. I’m keeping my focus simple and small, but at same time helping my team progress.”

Bush had the least carries and highest yards per carry of any of the top 15 rushers in the league last season, a formula that could bode well for his dream if he was able to be as effective with a higher workload. The problem is that the Dolphins are talking about moving in a different direction.

What do you guys think? Is there any way Bush could ever win the rushing title (not just next year)?
Might hurt his chances with a new offense that relies heavily on the pass.

A lot of people doubted he could be the #1 tail back. That he could run in between the tackles. That He could last a full year/workload. Minus the surgery at the end of the season, Reggie by far exceeded all expectations.

Lets take a look back to the past decade of rushing champions to figure out approximately what Bush would have to aim for to be in range of the title.

2011- Mo Jones Drew (1,606 yards)
2010- Arian Foster (1,616 yards)
2009- Chris Johnson (2,006 yards)
2008- Adrian Peterson (1,760 yards)
2007- LaDainian Tomlinson (1,474 yards)
2006- LaDainian Tomlinson (1,815 yards)
2005- Shaun Alexander (1,880 yards)
2004- Curtis Martin (1,697 yards)
2003- Jamal Lewis (2,066 yards)
2002- Ricky Williams (1,853 yards)

Average those out and we're looking at 1,777 yards a year to be the rushing champion over the past decade.

Last year Reggie broke the 1k yard mark for the first time in his career, finishing with 1,086 yards. His 2nd best season rushing he put up 581 yards.

That's over a 100% increase in production. I doubt he could nearly double up the 1,086 yards (but I'm crossing my fingers.) So if Reggie wants to be in the hunt for the Rushing Title, then he is going to have to improve on last years break out performace by 693 yards to be in contention.

Here's hoping that he can make it happen!

Sounds like a great goal to me, if he hits it or not. I don't really know why so many people doubt his abilities. Perhaps I didn't watch him enough before the fins got him. He sure was good in college.

A better, more healthy & gelled together O-line will really help his chances

Agreed. I can't wait to see him with the zone blocking scheme.
One cut and *poof* he's past the second level on his way in for 6.

Go get it Reggie but with Thomas and Miller behind you, and your injury history, it will be very hard to convince the coaches that you deserve 25 carries a game. And all you're doing is raising up your trade value because no chance in hell will you get a long term Chris Johnson deal with us. Not when we have talent behind you.

And being in a west coast offense. IMO that is the biggest hurdle

I like that he's setting high goals for himself, but he's not going to get the touches to do it.  But I'll be happy if he can lead the league in YPC.

No possible way Bush is even a top ten rusher this year. He may be top ten in total yards, but def not rushing. Our line is still questionable and there are other players that he will be sharing the back field with........and they are not bench warmers.

Kinda crowded in the backfield......which is not a bad thing!!

If he's given the opportunity he can do it

Thats the thing, we've got a couple of guys who can carry the rock.

Lack of touches will be the reason.

Miami Dolphins fans - the only fans in the league who absolutely despise when players make bold predictions or show confidence, and the only fans whose response to encouraging statements from players is "You wont be getting a contract from us, not with this rookie behind you! "

Bush had a career high carries in 2011(by plenty) of 216. Not in a million years could he handle the type of workload needed to lead the league in rushing.

Wouldnt want to put that strain on him either. We need other guys to perform so it's not all on the shoulders of #22.

And as WildBill3 said, Bush is more than proficient in the passing & return game. I'd prefer him to produce in all facets instead of strictly in the running game.
