Reggie Bush ... Why did we sign him?

When Reggie Bush first came here I was naive and actually believed he could could be a feature back for this offense, or at least see 50-70% of the touches. Sparano even came out and said that he would be the feature back, and that he can carry the load.

The last two weeks, not only has Reggie been non existent in the running game, but more alarming in the passing game. Bush can be consistently effective in this offense is as a receiver, or as a third down specialist. (Similar to Darien Sproles) But we are not even using him that way. It seems evident that NO knew the proper way to use Reggie, and our wise coach just can not figure it out.

So why did we sign him? If he is not the feature back, and he is not being used as a receiver scat back, what are we doing with him??? Did we just sign him for his celebrity status, and twitter followers?

Reggie probably thought this would reignite his career, but the reality is it could be his worse season under this staff. :crazy:

seems like we mostly just use reggie up the middle running..
That is coaching..
 
Reggie Bush isn't worth getting upset about. If he sucks, he sucks, but we spent a second round pick on DT for a reason. Reggie was sold on being the starter because that's what he wanted to hear.

We didn't draft him second overall, we sent some negligible draft picks for a guy who could still be a nice complement to this offense. And if he sucks so bad that he isn't worth keeping, we can cut him and move on.
 
For the name, I think they went out and said hey he is electric and the fans will like the move.
 
Was it ever established what picks we gave up for him ? At the time it was reported that it was an exchange of picks but that could mean anything

It doesn't really matter where the play is called, before he gets to the LOS he will have executed at least one spin move and gone laterally 5-10 yards.
 
Well Reggie isn't doing much with the touches he is getting. We tried a couple stretch plays, plays up the middle, and he was thrown to a couple of times. He moves left and right too much and not straight forward. He has cost us first downs on more than one occasion so far this season by trying to hit the home run as opposed to picking up the guaranteed first down. His poor play, coupled with the good play of D. Thomas = him not getting the ball. Still doesn't negate the fact that it was a terrible trade.
 
The problem wasn't signing him. The problem was the buffoons in the front office thinking he could be an every down back. I said it was completely and utterly ridiculous that he would be used 70% of the time as an every down back and got killed by the homers. In reality, Thomas should be getting 70% and Bush 30%. That's where he's most effective-- as a scatback. Sure, nice weapon & a nice player but he was never going to be the savior that a lot of people predicted.
 
The interesting thing is that I'd rather have Daniel Thomas in there on every down, even third and long, because Thomas is very good catching the ball out of the backfield, too.

However, Bush should definitely have a bigger role IMO, and it should be as a slot receiver in 4 WR sets, with Davone Bess in the slot on the opposite side. Throw him some bubble screens or crossing patterns and let him move in space.

Imagine if the dolphins traded next years 1st rounder for bush
and the dolphin end up with the #1 overall pick?
