relax... its only preseason... lol yeah right

We were all hoping for a better showing as last year was painful to watch....although Bates did have his moments in getting us excited. I wouldn't predict anything based off this game since it is what it was....the first preseason game. Consider it to be just a hair above the usual Titan scrimmage (which we're not having this year b/c of this additional preseason game). Nothing more, nothing less at this point. Just an oppoent for the team to suit and and practice against and for Saban to get a look at how the players react against different opponents. Now we get to see what Saban does after picking the film apart. How Saban handles the mistakes from preseason will be extremely important in their improvement to the regular seaon. At this poit...they've had only a few weeks to practice and a couple of mini-camps. They're just getting into the swing of things. No excuses from me for the crappy mistakes....but it is just the begining of the next 4 1/2 months.

I understand. I just don't understand the negativity. How many points did Miami score in their first preseason game last year? I know it wasn't 24. Did they score 24 all of preseason?

Did I appear negative? (not sure if that was meant towards me) . If so, that's not what I intended. My point is simply it's just a preseason game for talent evaluation for Saban and a chance for him to start cleaning up some things and nothing to get negative about at this point. :) I think that pretty much echos what you posted just above.

Post something that is non argumentive then. I am sorry but what you posted is wrong. Preseason games are pretty much meaningless, especially the first one. They are good for teaching and some roster battles, but that is about it. There is no game planning, hell there is no game planning. That is a HUGE part of the NFL. Plus there is a bunch of learning.

Agreed... the outcome of a preseason game is meaningless.. the way the players perform tells alot... In my opinion... the 1st team played poorly (compared to Chicago's 1st team)

Here is the main problem. They only way you can make a good judgement, a solid judgement, a judgement that actually makes sense is if you were to actually break down the film and watch the game through about 5 times or so with watching most plays at least 6 or 7 times from different angles. All these judgements from today are rash judgements that are about as good as training camp reports. When you see a long pass, do you know who broke down in coverage, do you know who blitzed too late, who blitzed too early, who went left when they should of went right or if someone just got the play wrong?

With all due respect... why do I need to watch the film 5 times to realize the 1st string OL was manhandled... the pain.. the horror... and you want me to go thru it 5 times.. lol

I just meant so many people. There were a lot of negatives however there were a lot of positives as well.

The only preseason game that matters is the one two weeks before the season. If the team looks like crap then, then it is something to really worry about. The rest are just a glorified practice.

Do you know why they were manhandled? Do you know if someone missed their assignement? Do you know if the Bears ran a stunt that they were not ready for as they didn't practice agaisnt it? Do you know who was even supposed to block who on each play? Do you know if the runningback missed the hole? There are many questions each play. Football is a complicated sport.

The way players perform does not tell a lot about preseason games. If that was the case John Kitna would be on his way to the hall of fame and Marino would be just another quarterback.

During thier superbowl runs there was no team that looked worse in the preseason than the Cowboys, even their starters looked like crap. They won the superbowl while the Vikings looked awesome and won all their preseason games those years. The Vikings did not make the playoffs.

Basically the first game to get annoyed by with performance is the game agianst the Broncoes. Preseason is just a glorified practice.

I think we might be getting somewhere here.. there we positives with the 2nd, 3rd and 4th string players.. 2nd, 3rd and 4th quarter was exciting.. but the 1st string team got manhandled.. The offensive 1st string did not appear to be any better than this time last year and 1st string defense was worse than last year to the point where I feel comfortable calling them down right shabby...

I will continue to hope that by the 4th preseason game the 1st string team will improve to point where they can dominate the game.. but for anyone to say "relax its only preseason" is wrong because to me... thats like burying your head in the sand waiting for better times

If Saban and company need to teach each player all aspects of the game.. then 100 preseason game is not enough... These are suppose to be profesional football players that have the skill and knowledge of how to play the game..

If this was High School.. Pop Warner.. then yes.. I would agree with you.. but most of these guys are (1st team only) veterans and if they need instructions on what to do in a vanilla offense after almost 2 weeks of training camp... then we are in worse shape than I thought

I guess we have a different idea of man handled. The 1st string looked decent. They need to improve blitz pick up for sure. They need to work better on the timing of the blitzes and disguising of the blitzes.

This time last year Miami was in a scrimmage against the Titans. What is your point?

Of course the defense was worse than last year. Last year they had a bunch of people who knew exactly what they were doing and where they should be and all that fun stuff on first string. This year they have a bunch of people learning the defense. This is the first time they have played this scheme in a live game against people they do not see everyday.

Relax is only preseason is right to me because it makes logical sense. Getting emotionally pissed off at preason does not make logical sense. Basically it is believing your child is going to be an idiot because he colors the sky green because he got the number 3 mixed up with the number 4 on a paint by numbers painting. There is still a lot to learn.

A new vanilla offense and a new vanilla defense. Offensive line is complicated. You need to know who you are supposed to block in stunts. THis is not pop warner or High School. Comparing it is like comparing 1+1 to the theory of relativity.

no need to push the panic button yet but if you do, here you go :D

well thanks guys... tonight was fun...

The best part about preseason games is... tomorrow morning when I wake up.. I've got the same life and same job to do... so you're right.. in that sense.. preseason is meaningless... lol

night you all

Relax

Its only preseason

These games mean nothing

Work in progress

blah blah blah...

Look at it this way, We shouldt panic and we shouldnt relax either. We got work to do! Thats whats its all about, getting the work in and fixing problems so by the 17th week of the NFL, you are a playoff team contending!

If you guys wish to believe the team will get better as the preseason progresses, then hey.. go for it..

But for all the others that want to discuss what they think is wrong with the team... even if they are able to notice it as early as preseason game #1... then atleast come up with an original response... "chill dude" "its preseason" "relax" "it means nothing" is getting old... and tiresome
So is the Chicken Little act.

I'll wait until the second to last preseason game is over before judging where this team is. That is the only preseason game that gets gameplanned for and the one where the starters will play significant minutes.

Its the first preseason game. Why do you want to talk about what is wrong when you have already thrown in the towel on them?
