Remember when the Colts...

peyton and MArvin let down the team

nah... i don't buy that... blame the coaching staff for insisting they could get by yet again with an undersized defense, and an addiction to the finesse game.... blame them again for not lining up with two tight ends, or a fullback every once in a while and smashing teams in the mouth...

blame the front office for placating Manning's out of control contract demands and depleting their depth when they couldn't afford to retain many key players...

I really thought the Colts would win it all. But it can't be understated that this was a very tough opening matchup. All year I've emphasized number of rushing attempts and yards per pass attempt. Amazingly, Pittsburgh led the league in both categories despite being the #6 seed. They had 549 rushing attempts and Roethlisberger was by far the best in yards per attempt at 8.90. Manning was second at 8.27.

Just shows that sometimes I don't pay enough attention to my own stats or theories because I didn't bet the Steelers today. But really I don't regret it. This round is historically home dominated and I'm not going to buck that very often.

The "Killer Stat" according to Bud Goode is Yards Per Pass Attempt Differential, offensive YPA minus defensive YPA. The Colts/Steelers game was a matchup of #1 and #2 in the league in that regard, with Indy just one tenth of a point better than Pittsburgh. Seattle is third and Carolina fourth so it's a stat that works. Indy was very unfortunate to draw Pittsburgh. I think they would have handled New England at home.

As others have stated, championships are a team victory, its not an individual one...

Somehow, the Colts Offense have mustered and averaged 10 PPG (total of 38) in the last 4 Playoffs losses... and that is after averaging 28 PPG for the last 4 Seasons...

I know the Colts defense was getting lit up early but really they only gave up what 21 points? The Colts should win any playoff game at home if their defense only gives up 21 points. The Colts were 3 and out early on and didnt get it done. Id put most of this on the Colts Oline being made of paper today. The 'liquored up' kicker didnt help late either. That fumble by Bettis was one of the alltime playoff chokes and the Colts had a giftwrapped tie given to them until Vandy shanked it.

I don't see where the Manning dislike is coming from. I really wanted him to get his ring this year.

And I wanted him to fall flat on his face again. And he did. :D

I hope he never gets a ring.
