Report: Philbin almost quit over Sherman situation

Let's be honest here. Sherman ran a high school offensive scheme. 80% of the snaps from one formation. Never flip-flop the receivers, no motion. No screen passes. No QB sneaks on 4th and one. Now whether he did that because he's a moron or because his quarterback couldn't handle anything more complex we'll never know. When you run a high school offense in the pros you deserve to be fired.

WRT Philbin he has never called the plays. In his tenure as OC he simply helped to draw up the game plan and practiced the team for the game plan. It is unlikely his play calling would have been any better than Sherman's. And given the game plans that we have seen, it would be hard to know how responsible he was for the game planning in Green Bay.

It the abstract it sucks that Philbin couldn't be loyal to Sherman to the end, but when push come to shove you have to look out for number one. That my friends is survival in a ruthless industry. Don't think for a second that Sherman wouldn't have fired Philbin to keep his job because he would have.

Good points but there is something to be same for loyalty.

Again a thread has turned its attention to Aponte when this story had nothing to do with her. She gets way too much hate for stuff she doesn't even do of is even responsible for.

Wow that Dolphin picture is to small it needs to be five times larger.

Philbin has pulled every excuse there is, as to why we play so poorly, even in the last two games.

He's talked about "schematic" problems. Well, that points to Mike Sherman, I suppose.

He's talked about not doing the "fundamental things" right, after the Buffalo loss. Well, I guess that's his assistant coaches, too.

He's talked about "if we won" the last game, we would have been in the playoffs, so he deduces from that, that as a team we are "close." Then right after that, he says " I acknowledge the fact that on paper there is a lot of room for improvement." On paper? You mean talent? I guess that points to Jeff Ireland.

Ok....this has all bought him a year. Now this season, Joe, it becomes YOUR responsibility. Unless you can wiggle out again and blame the new OC, or the new scheme, or Ryan Tannehill needing to get familiar with the new OC, or the new GM.

Let's face it. Philbin didn't almost quit. He's fighting very hard to hold onto this job.

Here we go with this Philbin BS already, what has this guy done to" Fall on his on sword"

First of all I object to all of the derogatory and bigoted species based slurs. Snakes perform a valuable function in society, they are predators and as such, work hard to keep the vermin population down, and also remove liquidity from various hubs. Thereby performing their part in Darwinian Capitalism and of course "survival of the fittest". So I suggest you stop the bullying or I will tell my Mommy.

As for the Bleach Report Etc. If I may use some logic as far as J. Philbin is concerned. At what point did anybody have a "presser" that said, "well as everyone knows JP almost quit when asked to fire M. Sherman". Or maybe, after S. Ross met with J.P., Joe left and poked his head into every office he could, saying, "Hey everyone guess who almost quit because of M. Sherman". Or maybe he went the lunch room and did the same. I'm just trying to figure out how these "sources" get their info. Of course he could of sent out a general E-Mail to all in the Fins organization stating this as a fact. Or maybe S. Ross hired a banner plane that said "J. Phil almost throws in towel because of Shermie, boffo at box O".

Conspiracy and Rumor are rulers of the Fins again. Oh and as far as A. Saguaro is concerned, he made his bones whipping up a frenzy against D. Shula.

WE were vermin at one time in evolution. Small rodent-like mammals. So I have to stand up for the all the mouses, at this time. Somebody has to.

The NFL is not for people who have no guts and can't make changes when they need to be made. You're doing this for the sake of the team Philbin. You can't worry about whose feelings may get hurt. If you can't deal with that then you shouldn't be a coach in the NFL.

What could Joe have said?

"We can't block anybody and the Bills knew exactly when we were going to snap the ball?"

You can't just throw everyone under the bus.

The article has no sources, the journalist has no connections to the team, and it appears that this is just speculation. Honestly, we will likely never know what went down between Ross, Philben, and Sherman.

The report is exactly what I would think. Of course if faced with firing Sherman, he talked it over with Sherman and told him the situation, then asked his opinion. That is their relationship.

Knowing Philbin's personality you know it was not his idea to fire Sherman. I would bet that Ross pushed for the firing. Wouldn't be shocked if Aponte pushed for it also.
