Reshad Jones - DB - Dolphins

Reshad Jones ran with the starters at free safety during the majority of the Dolphins' scrimmage Sunday.

Jones appears to have a leg up on Chris Clemons in the battle to start next to Yeremiah Bell. "Reshad in the last couple practices has been around the ball. He's been more physical," coach Tony Sparano said.

I like Clemons, and I think he will still contribute to the team this year. He is extremely fast and a capable of being a solid yet unspectacular player in this league. However, I think Reshad Jones has "IT", or at least I am hoping he does. He has shown flashes in his brief appearances, but I am being cautiously optimistic because we all know what small sample sizes can mean. If Jones starts, I think he can be the ballhawk our secondary needs, a 5+ interception guy back there...lets all hope

I really liked him coming out of the draft.. I was pretty damn happy when we finally picked him.

Like I said, this is the guy Miami has to have starting in the secondary to become an elite defense... and I guarantee Mike Nolan knows that.

Chris Clemons is a nice player, but he looks better than he really is because of the trash he replaced (Wilson). However, Miami will never be an elite defense with Clemons as the starting safety.... they'll always be in that group that's just on the outside looking in at the elite defenses.

You need a safety in your secondary that's capable of being a playmaker, a ballhawk, and an enforcer.... a difference maker in the vein of a Polamalu, Ed Reed, Darren Woodson, Ronnie Lott, etc.

This is the guy that takes Miami's defense to the next level if he reaches his potential....

Lol im all for this optimism but didnt jones play only a few quarters last year.. But ya, I've seen enough of Clemons to know he has no ball hawking ability and he shies away from contact

I agree he has zero ball hawking ability, but saying he shys away from contact means you didnt watch enough of Clemons.

I think he has good ball hawking ability, just sean smith like hands.

Big statement.. he does have that headhunter mentality of his that I loved though.

Sean Taylor was the last hard hitting FS that was also a ball hawk IMO..

He was the next Ronnie Lott.

Jones reminds me alot him. But Taylor was best college FS i ever watched, even better than Reed.

I agree with Tedslimm, this team wants to be elite, Jones has to succeed, and take the starting job.

In all due respect to Clemons, who I think could be better then solid, Jones has the appearence of being special, he just needs to to be smart and work hard.
