Ressurecting a Franchise

Blow it up ..... Find a guy with an eye for talent....who is Ozzie Newsome right hand man?

To find the next Shula, we must find a guy who is on a career track similar to Shula's.

Not an easy task. Shula had established him at an early age as the best coach in the old NFL and had taken the Colts to the Super Bowl. A Harbaugh or Peyton would be in that category and they ain't leaving where they are for any amount of $$$.

I seriously thought nick satan was that guy. If he ever goes back to the NFL he will win big. Just needs the right QB.

I don't think Dungy necessarily wants back into coaching.

I am somewhat intrigued by the career of Ken Whisenhunt. The man took the Cardinals to the Bowl. The CARDINALS. If there was ever a dysfunctional franchise in the NFL, you got it right there. But they won with him. He just couldn't replace Warner at QB (or wasn't given enough time to).

This franchise has only had one leadership that has been successful; thankfully, that lasted a long time, the reign of Shula. He ran the ball when we had power runners and he threw the ball when he had Marino. He won Super Bowls, was always in the playoffs, hardly ever had a losing season, had very few penalties and mental mistakes and had more wins than any other coach. We have tried just about everything else since he left and nothing worked. We hired a successful college and NFL coach-Johnson, whose teams were always good, but not great. We promoted from within, his protege, Wanstead (sp?), who rode on Johnson's coat-tails of good, but not great. We've hired successful college coaches, Saban, and that didn't work. We tried hiring successful co-ordinators, Cameron and Philbin, and that didn't work. We even tried bringing in a tried and true franchise ressurecter, Parcells (he helped the Giants, Jets and Patriots), and that failed. What is left to do? Where do we turn? Who do you trust out there to fix our problem? If you were Ross, a non-football guy, short of selling the team, how would you do it?

After today's debacle, I feel like bumping this thread. I have always been one to give the coaches/FO the benefit of the doubt because I hate turnover, but after the last two games, we need to clean house if Mr. Ross wants to protect his investment. My biggest problem with Philbin (I think he is a great guy), is that his team comes out flat in the biggest situations. Now, if, IF, if everyone is fired, where do you start? Mr. Ross is not a football guy, so he needs to bring in someone that he trusts to pick the right people to right the ship. Who should that be? Carl Peterson? I'm not too excited about that one. Marino? He already quit on that job once, why would he want to do it again? How do we know he would be any good? Who else do you trust? What would you do if you were the owner?
