Richmond Webb and the Hall

Richmond Webb, Dwight Stephenson and Larry Little are the three best Dolphins O-linemen ever.
Ever hear of Jim Langer, the Hall of Fame center on our Super Bowl winning teams? Richmond Webb was an excellent LT, but he isn`t getting into the HOF.

Yeeesssss...

I've heard of him.

Goodness...It's called my OPINION.

Just wondering if you knew who he was `cause he played alongside Little, and with you being 21 years old I just wondered how much you actually saw of Little during those 70`s championship years.

Are you serious? Marino was the qb sacked most by Bruce Smith.

Well maybe it has something to do with Marino's longevity and the fact that they played the Bills twice a year. Webb overall, contained Bruce Smith as good as or better than any other O-linemen in the league. In fact, when they played the Dolphins, Smith was frequently moved around the line in an effort to get a better matchup, because Levy and Co. knew Webb could limit him.

Don't forget Kuenchenberg. He dominated Alan Page in the SB

Don't get me wrong Web was a good LT but to say he won most of their battles w/ Bruce was way off. Ask Marino. He called Bruce a player that could single handedly change the outcome of an entire game.

Bruce Smith was a far better DE than Richmond Webb was at OT. But with that being said, Webb did an outstanding job against Smith, and to say Webb won most of their battles wouldn't be way off at all. BTW, Smith stayed around in this league waaaaay too long just for the all-time sack record. And to answer the origional posters question, Webb isn't HOF bound, IMHO.

The cross blocking scheme is what neutralized Page (and Eller, Larsen, and Marshall) in SB VIII. Kooch deserves to be in the HOF though.

Bingo! Webb was an outstanding pass blocker, but he could not run block to save his life. I agree Bill C, that will be the factor that will more than likely keep him out of the HOF.

To be fair to Webb when did he ever have a legit RB behind him?

Well he has to be a lock for the Phins ring of honor, should have his number retired.

Shula never really commited to the run when Webb was here. Oh sure, he`d say every year that we were going to run more, but it`s pretty hard to see that commitment through, when you`ve got Marino back there. Bottom line, Webb was a great pass blocker, but mediocore run blocker at best.

Richmond Webb was never Anthony Munoz, but he was one of the top LT's in the game for much of his career. If I'm not mistaken, he was a seven time all-pro selection and certainly played a big role in Dan Marino's success. His battles with Bruce Smith were legendary and, as great as Smith was, Richmond almost never lost those battles.

So does Webb have a shot at the Hall of Fame?

Great player and top 3 Dolphins left tackle he was. Fall just short of the Hall he will. Unfortunate it is.
