Ricky Williams and my argument with a Bills fan!!

If Ricky has a good year, do you think Nick Saban will trade him next season for a 2?

some could say Ricky only had 1 "great" season. and was "good" for the other seasons. and that Edge has been "very good" throughout his carrer. same with alexander. and your only real negatives on the other 2 RBs are that they have good players around them. (though ricky did look fast breaking those long TD runs.)

there are more real negatives against Alexander

while i enjoy hearing of dolphins problems, i dont think anyone will offer a 2nd rounder for ricky. and IF someone did, saban would take it. because:
1) ricky is 1 positive test away from a 1 year suspention.
2) ricky has, and might again retire unexpectedly.
3) a 2nd rounder is VERY HIGH, compared to his trade value.
4) after a "very good season" he may want more money. if he owes the team 8 mil, that doesnt mean he has to play for the fins. he may want to go get PAID, so he can eventually pay that off, and retire in 3 or 4 years.

IM sure I enjoyed watching the Bills lose 4 consecutive superbowls more than you enjoy this conversation. Ricky does have to play for the FINS. There are 8 Million reasons why he has to play for the fins, unless we decide to trade him. And name me a second round pick who is as valuable as he is? And he is also Cap Friendly, name a RB in the NFL that has his talent and paycheck? You can't. Sure he is a risk, but like I said before and will say again, its a low risk ( We already have Ronnie and most likely wont be offered a number 2 anyway), its not a hit to the cap with a high reward ( Best backup RB in the NFL), (Best RB DUO in the NFL) and insurance for Brown, just incase he gets injured.

I know we most likely wouldn't get offered a number 2. But you all have forgot just how good this guy is and can turn the outcome of a game around on a dime. He is worth more to us than a number 2 pick or most likely a 3, who could be a more expensive BUST!

I would trade him for a 2nd rd pick. Edge and Alexander are better backs than him, to say he is better after a year off is a completely biased opinion. With Ronnie Brown hopefully turning out to be a great player, Ricky couldn't start on any team in the Afc East. Is a backup RB more valuable than a player that should eventually start if he is taken in the 2nd rd?

The only AFC east team Ricky wouldn't start on, MAYBE, would be Buffalo. Ricky starts in front of Corey Dillon, Curtis Martin and if he wasn't suspended for 4 games, he's Miami's starter also. Actually, I'd have him starting in Buffalo as well. He's the best back in the AFC east....I'd put him in the top 5 in the league...LT, Priest, Jamal, Ricky, Edge, in that order

I need everyone's opinion on this. I have a friend who is a Bills fan and his screen name on AOL is Xmrsmoke1109x@aol.com. We were arguing over none other than Ricky Williams. This was the argument.

He said, Ricky won't be there next year and you won't get much for him. I said why would you be so sure he wouldn't be here? He said you just signed Ronnie for 20 Million. I asked, what does that have to do with Ricky?

Why would we trade Ricky for a 3rd round draft pick, when he is ours next season and we basically have this player by the gonads because of the 8 million. I said if Ricky has a good year, which I know he will Saban wouldn't trade him for a 3rd rounder.

He said ok, than maybe a 2nd rounder but he wont be there. I asked, what sense would that make for us? We have a pro-bowl running back under contract for basically league minimum, why get rid of him for a more expensive 2nd round draft choice with less talent?

I want to see what you guys think about this.

Would Saban trade Ricky after he has a good year for a 2nd round draft choice? The Bills fan claims there is no way we get a 1. Or would Nick Saban keep Ricky in the backfield with Ronnie for another season?

Id like to see what you guys think
I think, that even if RW has a huge year, he'll most likely have more value to us if we keep him than if we trade him. Saban has gotten a little lucky by establishing what appears to be a good relationship with a very eccentric person, so I think he sleeps easy at night with the assumption that RW won't bolt on him any time soon. But a trade might upset the apple cart in RW's brain and could be a big question mark for another team. Saban gave up nothing to get RW on our team, another team would most likely have to give us a 2nd or 3rd pick to OUTWEIGH the benefit we'd forego if we just kept him.

My prediction...we'll keep him until he doesn't want to play anymore. In the mean time, we try our best to fight through the horror of having a pro-bowl running back on our team for a pittance of cost, while also enjoying the benefit of grooming a young stud into the same role with no pressures. You say RW won't settle for a pittance of pay? You're right, he won't, but I don't think he'll break the bank either. And he won't be looking for a long term deal b/c he doesn't even want to predict tonight's dinner plans with his eastern religion theories of living in the moment.

Where's the poll option for 'Saban can't get a #2 for Ricky no matter how good he does this year'??

That's my pick.

correct me if im wrong, but i thaught that he breached his contract. and him returning to the fins does not mean that 8 million is forgiven. it just means he has a job. and the fins have his rights, so they can do with him as they like, (trade him, cut him, play him...).

so he doesnt HAVE to be on the fins roster, does he?

if hes traded, he still owes the team 8 mil. and if another team is offering him 3 million a year, wouldnt that seem like a good place for him. and the fins get the 8 mil, and a draft pick (or player).

but then again, im sure you know more about this than me. (did i just say that.... , :shakeno: )

Amazing......Ricky doesn't even play last year, has 1 bad pre-season game, 1 good pre-season game....and now all of a sudden he's the best back in the NFL.

Homerism @ its best.

If he stays with Miami through the rest of his contract, IM sure his hopes are we drop the law suit.

Psst You are on a Dolphin Website you jamook, what do you expect? And Bills fans think Mcgahee is the second coming of Christ, after ONE HEALTHY GOOD YEAR! Ricky has had multiple 1,000 yard years and Mcgahee has alot to do before he is Ricky.

Ricky is one of the best RB in the NFL. Behind no O line and no passing game just 2 years ago!!!!!!!!! He led the LEAGUE!

drop the law suit? i thaught the judgment was already handed down. and he owes 8 million weather he comes back or not.

the fins say.."come back, we want you. and we will pay you, but you still owe us 8 million. and if your good, we MAY drop that multi million dollar debt you owe us"?? that seems strange to me.

why does it have to be a 2nd round pick? depending on how well ricky does this year, i can see Nick trading him for a mid-to-late first, or early 2nd at the lowest, packaged with other later-round picks.

Ricky will be a proven back who has something special. i also can see Brown being a flop and us trading him and keeping ricky.

but no way in 2006 do we keep both ricky and brown... too financially irresponsible.

He still owens us the money. And there is no way we can get a player of his ability in the second round. And he also saves us money. And what high priced guys wont be here next year?

If Ricky winds up tearing up the league this year, we would be stupid to get rid of him for 500k per season. Even if we were to give him some extra money for certain goals, he is WORTH keeping on the team. I know Saban wants to get younger, but Ricky is only 29... Dude I dont agree

I thought he was only 28?

Lift the "Judgement" to be exact. Yes, this has been talked about.

Why dont we see how he does and the season pans out before we talk about trades next year already!
