These sound alien coming from an athlete -- particularly a football player -- but there could actually be some practical applications.
For instance: Ricky won't get hung up on how much playing time he should have. He won't waste concentration blaming his teammates for a missed block. He won't live in the past kicking himself should he happen to fumble.
Try looking at his statements again in this context, and se ehow they read.
