Ricky's new comments irk me

No. I hate behavioral medicine and dread my psychiatry rotation that will be coming up next year. I'm one of the guys that will see a patient that wants to kill himself and tell him "Go Ahead!"

Patient: "Doc, what's my problem?"
Me: "You are F'n crazy, now when do I operate?"

I agree with you as far as the "legal drug trade" thats going on right now with people getting pumped full of all these different drugs to deal with their problems, but a guy like Ricky is still maturing and could benefit from the wise counsel of someone like Nick Saban to teach him some proper perspective on life and football.

..............I'll say it for the third time.........because 4 months ago he boasted to SI.com that he had 2 years and 4,000 yards left in him. Funny how his tune changed once he got back on the team.

Yes, he did. But thats because he believes in himself enough to say that he's still got talent.

What else is he going to say? "I suck now, I wouldnt be any good to anyone."

He didnt say anything in he last comment to say he doesnt have talent. Just that he's forgetting the past and moving forward.

He's here now and whether people hate him or not he will be good because like Ive said before, the guy took a year off like if he was on vacation.

He didnt miss due to some tough season ending knee injury.

If anything his body needed the rest from 2 years of Wanny's pounding him into the ground with all of those carries.

The guy will get his yards this year big time. What Saban does with him will depend on what Brown does. We've got other backs yes but it's really up to Brown to either be as good as Ricky or not.

If he's not as good then look for Saban to keep Ricky around because I seriously doubt anyone will give up anything for Ricky. Unless a 6th or 7th rounder is good for you. If people think, with Ricky's issues, that he's only playing good because he's got a coach like Saban with him then there's no way they'll take a chance on the guy no matter how good he does for fear he'll leave them high and dry like he did Wanny.

Ricky's going to be here for a few years either as a backup or starter unless we dump him for next to nothing.

...........most of you know that I completely disagree with having him on the Phins..........and perhaps I'm knit-picking a tad here, but Ricky's latest comments irk me.

I think it's great the man doesn't want to look back. That's fine, who legitimately wants to constantly be stuck in the rut of the past. Yet some of us have been questioning the man's heart and desire since he decided he wanted back. He's not really commented up to this point what he is set out to do now that he's back other than really general statements that most football players make........until now. The whole "I don't expect to get back to where I was a few years ago," just doesn't sound kosher to me.

A guy with passion to play again, would openly come out and say he wants to come back and dominate. Ricky's comments, to me, translate into "Ya I'm back, I don't want to be bugged about the past, just let me play no matter the result." Doesn't sound like lofty goals to me.

Anybody else get that impression?

Bottomline to his comments and you really have to listen to Ricky:

1. He's brought into Saban philosophy totally. His wording is a little different, but the same as Saban's on this subject.

2. He wants to be better than his past, if he gets back to the past, that means he hasn't improved...reread his stuff, it's deep, but honest..I love it.

I didn't mean to come off as confrontational by calling your comment "weak". I meant that you usually have a much more defensible comment and that was not up to your high standard. That said people are more than entitled to critisise anyone they want at any time, and Ricky is a nice public target. The guy is a first class head case and I wouldn't be surprised if he is gone by the end of camp.

I think maybe you're just surprised I'm not taking more of a stance on the Ricky issue. That is because I'm in a sort of wait and see mode. My opinion on Ricky hasn't really been in step with the mainstream over the past year or so.

I agree that people are entitled to be critical of anybody they want to be critical of. What I don't agree with is trumping up reasons to try to make it topical. A thread titled "I dislike Ricky" isn't going to get much attention here, so somebody is just looking for an excuse to get that opinion out. That's not right.

some of you people whin like little kids(enigmatics or what ever the name), all he was saying was he was moving forward, my understanding is that he was satating he's a different back now, not as heavy, probably alittle faster and probably would be a different version than before, i think people need to chill for a minute, and see how he does:fire:

this has been a decent discussion. the negativity toward ricky reminds me of what i went through on various sports teams throughout my life because i have dared to think for myself. i know there has been this talk about saban looking for "wolves" and not "sheep," and it's really funny, because fans are looking for sheep, and high school and college teammates are looking for sheep, and our culture is teaching us to be sheep. "a winner talks like this, a winner wears his pants like this, a winner keeps his quotes consistent, etc..." i think that being a winner (in terms of sports) is based solely on how one conducts himself on the field of play, i.e. don't show weakness to the opponent, play hard on every play, etc. whether a guy remembers every word he says to every member of the press and stays consistent with those words is not too important to me when the guy is a FOOTBALL PLAYER. i wish we paid as much attention to people we should be watching, people with jobs that matter to our actual lives. i wish in vain...

focus on today, or "the now," is something that is sorely lacking in our commercial culture. think about how many advertisements we see in one day. what is the message they're delivering? "you're not going to be happy until you get this product, you're not going to be happy until you look this good, etc..." and think about the basic christian idea of life needing to be redeemed by a savior. i'm not bashing christianity, there are some good points there (most of which are ignored by what passes for christianity these days, e.g. the book of matthew, or pretty much anything christ said or did), but the idea that everything is gonna be just fine LATER is not something to build your life around. it's a good way for leaders to rob their people blind while promising them something down the line. i prefer the eastern philosophies, or those of the ancient greeks, who all teach people to live in the now, good or bad. these are better practical philosophies for treating bad things as just as much a part of life as the good things, so it makes sense that most americans think they're crazy philosophies.

His attitude is perfect for where he is and that is "be the best you can be today, the past is unchangeable and the future is unknowable." Ricky will prove himself by his actions, nothing more and nothing less. Just let go of it and let him do his thing. He's on the team, you can't change that/ He has great talent and that is unquestionable. We have to look at him each day he does something and say, "Yea, he's as good or better than he was." But again, that is our problem not his - he will be the best he can be today.
