Ricky's new comments irk me

What irks me are all these threads focusing on the past and Ricky bashing. Most of our opinions are formed about people based on our lives and what we would do in the same situation. If your not in somebody's shoes, you don't REALLY know what they're thinking. Ricky is eccentric, extremely intelligent, poorly understood and probably on a higher level of thinking than all of us. Most people who throw around allegations and insults are just professing their ignorance. He has a very eastern thought process or philosophy. Just cause we don't understand it doesn't mean we should condemn it. Read a book or two on Buddhism, Taoism, or Yoga and you will see whay he answers questions the way he does. He lives in the now. The past is the past and cannot be changed, and the future distracts us from the now. If you focus on the now and ejoying, fulfilling and taking advantage of the present; the future will take care of itself. Western philosophy has alot of catching up to do with eastern philosophy. The traditional western response to this is "FRUITCAKE". I disagree. It just takes more time and more effort to truly understand it and ourselves, so it's must easier to make fun of it and then try to better one another instead of trying to make ourselves better.

Wholly crap, Where the hell did that come from. I think I was possessed by the Dali Lama

Great post Guido. Also, might I recommend these folks read up on Mohandas "Mahatma" Gandhi.

As Albert Einstein said: "Generations to come will scarce believe that such a one as this ever in flesh and blood walked upon this earth. (said of Mahatma Gandhi)"

--A guy with passion to play again, would openly come out and say he wants to come back and dominate--

Always remember the quote, "We're all different". There's no standard as to who does what and how they do it. Ricky does and says what he wants, just like you, me, and everyone else. There can be 25,000 football players that "would openly come out and say he wants to come back and dominate". Ricky doesn't. He's a totally different person. Let his production on the field do the talking.

Thank you. I was begining to think I was the only one who read these things and believed differently (Iknow I am one of the few in the bible belt Florida)

Anyway, don't get me wrong, America is a free country and people are entitled to their opinions , but to become so negative and hostile and angry at someone you don't even know is wrong. Let it go.

Ricky will be fine. Actually I think he will be better.

I've read a book or two by the Dalai Llama (sp.?), the Bible (New Testament only), and a book on Gandhi. I have different views on life from most people I know.

You are giving Ricky too much credit. While I agree that the eastern philosophies can be life changing and fulfilling for some people, a one year experimentation with it does not qualify him to be on a higher plane.

IMO he has a weak character and is just as liable to smoke pot again as he is to become a Guru.

...........most of you know that I completely disagree with having him on the Phins..........and perhaps I'm knit-picking a tad here, but Ricky's latest comments irk me.

I think it's great the man doesn't want to look back. That's fine, who legitimately wants to constantly be stuck in the rut of the past. Yet some of us have been questioning the man's heart and desire since he decided he wanted back. He's not really commented up to this point what he is set out to do now that he's back other than really general statements that most football players make........until now. The whole "I don't expect to get back to where I was a few years ago," just doesn't sound kosher to me.

A guy with passion to play again, would openly come out and say he wants to come back and dominate. Ricky's comments, to me, translate into "Ya I'm back, I don't want to be bugged about the past, just let me play no matter the result." Doesn't sound like lofty goals to me.

Anybody else get that impression?

Its ok man, Ricky has always been very modest. This is the same kind of statement he would make after he rushed for 200 yards in a game. It's cool.

People claim to change by becoming Christians practically over night. (Nobody ever denies that)One year is not that far fetched. IMO, he's been dabbling with it for much longer than that. He still has his disorder, but we've all got issues.

I, personally, love his comments.

He is spot-on regarding addictions too. TV, food, Sports (finheaven our support group, or pusher - your call), media.

I also absolutely LOVE that it pisses people off like the one who started this thread. If you can't expand people's horizons at least give them a headache!

I'd say he did more than "experiment" with it. What he did was overdose on it for a year.....living in a tent in Australia...traveling to different countries, going to school and studying Ayurveda...I'd say he is well on his way to being qualified if he isn't already.

Say that you are right which I dont think you are.Why come back to play football ? For the money ? Money is the root of evil in most of those eastern philosophys .Is it because he loves the game and missed it ? It could be but it seems unlikely.

BTW unlike the born again christians who are suddenly struck with the light,Eastern philosophies are more interested in how to live your life than deitys.

It takes several years of intense study and meditation to reach that higher plane.

Money may be the root of all evil (which is also believed in western philosophy), but try telling that to the judge when he's asking why you haven't paid child support. Also, how you live down here on earth is just as important to Christians as it is to any other religion.

I don't really think it was overnight, He has always had similiar views and is just beginning to become more involved and educated in it. I may be wrong, but only time will tell. I personally was never religious, I was a Holiday Catholic. But after delving into religious history and the eastern religions I realize than religion is not inherently good; actually many common religions are probably inherently evil and more man made than we would like to believe. I have only been studying this for 1 1/2 years but feel much different and happier about many things. Not as judgmental. His comments have always been a little "weird" but when I go back and read them now they actually begin to make sense. That's probably what heppened to him. Certain ways he felt and thought are Probably? beginning to make more sense. I personally would love to be able to sit and speak with him.
