Rocket Science!

You guys need to rewatch the game. During the 3rd and 4th quarters when we were only down by 6 points, we did not abandon the run. We called exactly 4 running plays and 6 passing plays during that time, and 2 of those pass plays were sacks that put us in long position.

It was only after the Chiefs went up 27-15 with 4 minutes left in the game that we abandoned the run and went with 13 consecutive pass plays.

Maybe I do, I just remember thinking we should have ran on particular plays...1st downs probably...

Where's one of those condensed game tape links? :chuckle:

The one play I know you must be thinking of...was 3rd and 1 when we were down by 6 points. We decided to get cute and try to pass it, but Tannehill ended up taking a sack and we punted the ball.

yup that was def one. Gonna go look at the game play logs to see if i can recall anymore.

The only "bad" QB I see there would be Alex Smith and even he had an 89 passer rating which is very respectable, actually its pretty good.

Has nothing to do with it. So you consider every other team listed there to have an "elite" QB?

I pointed this out to you exactly one week ago:

Your grading analysis went from "elite" directly to "crap". Hardly a fair range. The very few elite QB's can help carry a team but we all saw in last year's SB that it's clearly not the deciding factor in being a champion. There are plenty examples of above-average, good QB's with a SB ring and even a few merely average ones that rode their team to the Lombardi.

Here you are again going from "elite" immediately to "bad".

First off I never claimed any of those QB's to be bad, they are in fact good to very good, but arguably only 2-3 of the 12 playoff teams last year have a QB that can be legitimately debated as elite. My point in showing you the statistics behind the graph that you posted was that it requires a lot more balance within team's offensive attack than the simple hyperbole that everyone championship team needs a great QB.

The word Elite suggests that they are very rare... So what you are suggesting is to keep playing as if we have one of the top 5 QBs in the league even if we dont, until we get one??? Philbin is very stupid if he beleives he has that kind of time to work with...

Nobody has that kind of time to work with without an elite QB. Which coach besides Marvin Lewis has any longevity without an elite QB?

So one was when landry got that 74 yard return:

5-C.Santos kicks 72 yards from KC 35 to MIA -7. 14-J.Landry to KC 33 for 74 yards (23-P.Gaines). KC-20-C.Owens was injured during the play. His return is Questionable.
1-10-KC 33 (6:26) (Shotgun) 17-R.Tannehill pass incomplete short right to 11-M.Wallace (50-J.Houston).
2-10-KC 33 (6:22) (No Huddle, Shotgun) 26-L.Miller up the middle to KC 33 for no gain (90-J.Mauga).
3-10-KC 33 (6:03) (No Huddle, Shotgun) 17-R.Tannehill pass incomplete short right to 11-M.Wallace.
4-10-KC 33 (5:59) (Field Goal formation) 9-C.Sturgis 51 yard field goal is GOOD, Center-92-J.Denney, Holder-2-B.Fields.
KC 21 MIA 13 Plays: 4 Possession: 0:42

We scored a FG and the KC punted back to us:

1-10-MIA 34 (4:12) (Shotgun) 17-R.Tannehill pass short right to 26-L.Miller to MIA 26 for -8 yards (97-A.Bailey; 52-J.Johnson).
2-18-MIA 26 (3:40) (Shotgun) 17-R.Tannehill pass short right to 11-M.Wallace pushed ob at MIA 40 for 14 yards (31-M.Cooper).
3-4-MIA 40 (3:05) (Shotgun) 17-R.Tannehill pass incomplete short left to 14-J.Landry (20-C.Owens).
4-4-MIA 40 (2:59) (Punt formation) 2-B.Fields punts 60 yards to KC 0, Center-92-J.Denney. 85-F.Hammond to KC 48 for 48 yards (2-B.Fields). PENALTY on KC-24-K.McCray, Illegal Block Above the Waist, 1 yard, enforced at KC 2.

We then get the safety and we finally run on two straight first downs that get good gains!

5-C.Santos kicks 71 yards from KC 20 to MIA 9. 14-J.Landry to MIA 24 for 15 yards (24-K.McCray).
1-10-MIA 24 (2:32) (Shotgun) 26-L.Miller left end to MIA 48 for 24 yards (21-S.Smith).
1-10-MIA 48 (1:59) 26-L.Miller right tackle to KC 47 for 5 yards (39-H.Abdullah).

2-5-KC 47 (1:19) 17-R.Tannehill pass incomplete short right to 82-B.Hartline.
3-5-KC 47 (1:15) (Shotgun) 17-R.Tannehill pass incomplete short right to 82-B.Hartline (39-H.Abdullah). MIA-82-B.Hartline was injured during the play. His return is Questionable.
4-5-KC 47 (1:10) 2-B.Fields punts 44 yards to KC 3, Center-92-J.Denney, downed by MIA-29-W.Davis.

3rd quarter 4:12- 3 and out(3 passes)
next drive- Miller run for 24, Miller runs for 5.... incomplete incomplete punt

Yeaaap, as you can see, 2 runs and 2 passes are hardly abandoning the run....

I dont give a damn about elite QBs, we dont have one. I want to win games and passing at this rate is keeping the team from doing just that.

Why did they stop running? Miller just busts a long one, then grabs 5 to make it 2nd and 5... then pass pass punt... Yeah they did...

Like I said before, they stopped running because they were down by 12 points with 4 minutes left. Come on man. Thats the exact point they stopped running the ball. Go to a sport website and look at the charted plays.

Full 3 and out in the middle of the 3rd quarter all passes. And even then... in this game we averaged more yards per run than per pass attempts... Slice it anyway you want, theres no excuse to average 7+ yards a carry and end up with a 2:1 pass/run ratio...

Man, the charts i posted on the previous play support that that they foolishly passed way more often than they ran even though they were running well. Abandoning the run may not be the right word, but they werent running enough. And this was in the 3rd Q while down by 6. WHY didnt they run more on first down?
