Roger Saffold- A Closer Look

 I like how hardly no one on this board was talking about the guy 2 weeks ago and now that some articles came out saying he's a guard everybody knows all about him and think he can't play tackle... He played tackle his entire college career and all 3 NFL seasons... The only reason they moved him to guard last year was due to injuries..... He's a tackle and a guard if need be.

A small drop off, but not much and the pay would be about half of what Monroe and Albert will get, so it's worth it.

He was moved because they signed Long, and paid him a bunch, to take his place. Why do you think the Rams did that?

Wrong... They moved him there because Harvey Dahl got injured and he was the best replacement.

No way in hell he gets a deal like Longs

I think J Tes is gonna win that bet, actually. Based on the rumblings about the salary cap bump in 2016, I think teams will view this as a great opportunity to spend in free agency before things get really out of hand.

If the rumors are true, contracts that look absurd now (Wallace last year for instance) will be pretty yawn-inducing in a couple of years.

Not true, Saffold only played LT in the last game of the year. He was moved when they signed Long last off season to play LT in his place.

Don't make me bring out the links

Saffold was their left tackle; Long signed; Saffold goes to right tackle; splits time with Barksdale; Dahl got injured; Saffold moves to right guard.

Exactly my thoughts. I wasn't at all making the statement that he's worth it, just that I think he'll get it. Demand is always high for lineman, especially young, versatile lineman. That coupled with the higher than expected rise in the salary cap and I think Saffold along with others are going to get paid.

Bring them. You will find that Dahl got hurt in week #8, and that Saffold did not move to RG until week #10. In weeks #7, 8, and 9, he was still playing about 30% of the snaps at RT.

Bottom line for me is that he was replaced at LT, could not hold down the RT spot but, was good at OG. In no way, shape or form is that worth a big contract.

And what does that have to do with anything? He ended up taking the guard spot.

Replaced by one of the top left tackles in the league, moved over to right tackle and took snaps from the right tackle that was already there to begin with, and the only reason he didn't "hold the spot down" was because the Dahl injury. You're just painting your own picture lol

I don't want to give anyone a big contract.. That's the point in going after a younger cheaper guy. Collins is less experienced than Saffold and he'll get paid a lot more. Albert and Monroe are not even elite tackles (middle of the pack) and will get top 5 pay. I like value in free agency and that's not value.

The salary cap went up around 8% this year, with the same expected next year. That does not mean that average/slightly above players are gonna get paid big bucks but, we shall see.

Best of luck with our wager. What is your bottle of preference?

Oh no you didn't. I said the same thing in another thread and Hayden Fox got himself all worked up. Elite and Albert shouldn't be in the same sentence. Same goes with Monroe.

Agree on his losing the LT spot to long but, he had every chance in the world to win the RT spot, and did not. It took 3 weeks for the Rams to move him to RG. He lost out at RT to some guy named Barksdale before the injury to Dahl.

There are elite guys and then there is Fat Albert

god i hope we dont sign this guy for no where near long money.... Not only is he not as good as long but hes injury concern is too high to pay that much money. guy has not played a full year the past 3 season. not worth the money . 4-5 a year i can live with as a LG or RT but nothing more.
