Ive seen alot of different opinions on how everyone thinks we will use Ronnie and Ricky. I just thought I would add my 2 cents.

It's obvious Saban has had a plan since day 1 for Ricky. I think Ricky is tradebait eventually, probably around next years draft. There is no way we keep both backs on our roster. Saban knew Ricky was coming back when he drafted Ronnie at #2. With the way Saban seems to be so frugal with his picks he would not have wasted a pick on Ronnie if he thought Ricky was coming back for any length of time.

I say it happens like this...Ronnie will get 15-20 carries a game with at least 5 receptions a game and they will showcase Ricky just enough (5-8 carries a game) just to show other teams that Ricky may still have some value. Ricky will be gone by next years draft and if he is just a peice of what he was I'm hoping to squeeze a 4th rounder out of him.

With the right luck, Ricky could be moved before the deadline this year. An ideal situation would be something like this: some NFC team expected to contend loses its rushing threat in the preseason. Ricky has been tearing it up hardcore. We have depth at RB enough to handle the loss, and they have a pick in next year's draft we find acceptable for Ricky. I'm not saying to count on it, but stranger things have happened. I forget how early the trade deadline is in the NFL, but I think it's after week 4. If that's the case, it could be an early season injury that would spur the trade as soon as Ricky is able to come back from the suspension.

I think your all off base.

I think Saban is ****y enough that he thinks he can control Ricky and get a bruiser to come in and spell Ronnie and not have to overuse Ronnie.

Kinda like the Pittsburgh situation. What happens when you take the bruiser out? Put in another bruiser!

That sounds good too. The sooner the better for me. I hate the fact that Ronnie has to look over his shoulder right now. Dont get me wrong competition is good but I see more of a distraction than anything else. I want Ronnie to be the man from Day 1.

who knows? there are so many different things that may happen. playing time may come to field position, our new coach play calling, Ricky has said he wants/has 2 seasons to play with his playing career, dont 4get Brown is a rookie and he will be our starter for yrs to come. And Brown will be starter for first 4 games i believe which cud mean he gets more carries than Ricky if he delivers in Ricky's absence. But to have 2 potential good rb,s will take the slack off both players and keep them both fresh.

Or maybe he thought Ronnie was just too great to pass up . But even if he isnt planning on trading Ricky I think Ricky will be happy being a backup, out of the spotlight without all the wear and tear on him. I also think that money won't be an issue for Ricky if hes happy where hes at so we would just keep him as a backup, without any large risks. I don't think any team is going to give up a draft pick for him.

I think you right VanDolphan.....for this year. I just dont think Sabans plans for Ricky are long term. My opinion is Ricky is gone by draft day next year.

Yup, but if Ricky does stay solid he might keep him as a backup role. It might be more agreeable to Ricky. Less pressure, and less banging around. We will just have to see how it plays out. I don't think he sees Ricky as trade bait cause really Ricky has zero trade value.

Ricky has zero trade value only until he busts out a 100 yard game (if that ever happens again). Owens proves teams are willing to put up with headcases who perform.

His trade value is zilch if he says he only wants to play for 2 more seasons!!

And Alexander, James and Henry show that running back values in trade are near worthless these days. Teams don't want to trade for older running backs.

Owens hasn't publicly said he has 2 years left, failed three drug tests, and quit football a week before training camp... :rolleyes2

That's actually why I think our best chance is something like what I outlined. The Williams situation is different from Alexander/James due to money, and Ricky may be different than Henry due to talent if he comes back doing what he left doing. If a team needs to fill a hole, has the cap to do so, and is really only worried about him as a one year solution, this could work. A third round pick would be well worth giving up if you thought Ricky Williams would be the sort of x-factor somebody like Rasheed Wallace was for the Pistons last year.

A lot would have to fall just right, of course.

idk of many teams that would give up a third round pick that could turn into a future multi-year probowler for a one year solution at runningback unless they were a runningback away from winning the suberbowl. I don't see that happening.

Owens has destroyed a decent team in the Niners with a public feud with his quarterback and has called out one of the league's three real star QBs. I'm not saying it's precisely the same situation -- I'm saying it could be a possibility.

Thanks for your attempt at being CAPTAIN OBVIOUS, but I'm not a moron. I understand the situation quite well. :rolleyes2
