Ronnie and Rickys role

idk of many teams that would give up a third round pick that could turn into a future multi-year probowler for a one year solution at runningback unless they were a runningback away from winning the suberbowl. I don't see that happening.

A third round pick doesn't generally turn into a future multi-year probowler. That's absurd. It's like suggesting this Dolphins team traded away what could have been a future multi-year starter for David Boston because that was a 6th rounder that left for him or that the Dolphins traded away what could have been a HOFer for AJ Feeley because it was a 2nd rounder given up for him.

Now that I think of it, I'll even name a potential suitor: Carolina. They should be good, and they may have a hole at RB depending on how everybody on the depth chart ahead of Nick Goings feels.

Owens has destroyed a decent team in the Niners with a public feud with his quarterback and has called out one of the league's three real star QBs. I'm not saying it's precisely the same situation -- I'm saying it could be a possibility.

Thanks for your attempt at being CAPTAIN OBVIOUS, but I'm not a moron. I understand the situation quite well. :rolleyes2

Ok :calm: I wasn't trying to start a fight or anything.

I don't think Owens single handedly destroyed the Niners by any means, he was one of the few playmakers they had but he wanted to win and have a legitmate shot at the Superbowl. Yes he is a headcase but I don't think hes nearly as bad as Williams and he wants to win. With Ricky we have no idea where his heart is at and we may never find out.

Except they spent a 2nd round on Shelton out of Louisville.

"If" Ricky gets traded were looking at about a 5th rounder. Henry is pretty much the barometer of trade value. Whatever he goes for that's about the best the team can hope for with Ricky.

I was just bantering. It's all good, man. :)

Owens doesn't want to win badly enough to honor his contract. At this point, it's difficult for me to distinguish him from Ricky. Ricky's one offense was much worse, but Owens just keeps doing that thing he does.

I wasn't saying that they always turn into probowlers but rarely they do and alot of third rounders become starters. I wouldn't trade that for a one year runningback.

That might be the case. Then again, let's say the Titans finally pull the trigger on Henry and Shelton pops an ACL the next day. It's a new ballgame, isn't it?

I agree i would much rather trade for a back like Henry than Ricky because I could count on him for atleast a couple years and could get him for a pretty low price trade-wise.

Ricky might be a two year RB. Honestly, he could be a 8 year RB. I'm not saying anybody is necessarily going to count on that, but I'm sure some Eagles fan was out there making points like these about AJ Feeley at some point before Miami send a 2nd round pick for him.

Yep, but if you are one player away from the superbowl you might be able to work out a deal with Seattle for Alexander for maybe a second round draft pick wich would most likely be somewhere from pick 58-64 or so.

Thats probably true but Feeley is a very clean player and a hard worker.

You might be able to do that, but maybe Seattle feels committed to trying to win with Shaun by that point. Beyond that, Shaun is going to cost you more money unless you're using him as a rental and just let him go. As I understand it, Ricky has an attractive pay structure now that he did what he did to us last year.

BTW, it's the offseason. I don't know why I feel like there are expansive options. It's almost like I'm playing devil's advocate except that would mean saying things like Saban sucks that I absolutely won't be saying. I think it's because I know I have seen crazy things happen every year I have watched football. At this time of year, it's okay to think maybe AJ can turn it on and pass for 4500 yards even though he probably isn't...

I don't know about this hard worker thing. I have heard he's a terrible practice player by reputation. I guess maybe that doesn't say anything about work -- maybe he's just a spaz in practice.

Ricky has no trade value imo. The guy has said he has two seasons left in him. If a team did try and trade for him they would make sure he signs something saying he can't retire before ____. I highly doubt Ricky would do that. He doesn't want to get sued, again. I think Ricky will return to his old stellar self. The guy has social anxiety. He isnt going to come in out of shape and piss everyone off. He cares what people think, regardless of what he says. Alot of people would like to think Ricky will be mediocore at best when he comes back, and Ronnie being the starter no matter what after week 5, but i dont buy that one bit.

Ricky has always ran his heart out when he put on that jersey, and he is a better pure RB than Ronnie right now. He has more experience, and is a proven pro-bowl halfback. I think Saban will start the better man after the suspension unless Ronnie Brown is tearing it up on the field. I see Ricky being the better HB this season. He will be splitting time with Ronnie, but the majority of the time he will be taking the snaps. Like it or not, Ricky Williams is a great halfback. He always has been when he played, and i have no reason to believe otherwise. He isn't a dumb guy, and as i said earlier he has anxiety. His biggest fear is probably going back to football and getting 2 ypc and becoming the laughing stock of the NFL.

Ricky Williams will play two more seasons with the Dolphins and then retire. Ronnie will take over his 3rd year pro, and will be fully developed and take over the RB duty.

If Ricky outperforms Ronnie in TC then I think Saban will be sorely disappointed. No way did he spend a #2 on a guy he wants to groom. You groom QB's not RB's. I think Saban fully expects Ronnie to perform and perform now.

If I were in saban's place, I would run Ricky and rest Ronnie every chance I got to get value for Ricky.

Help Ricky have a 1,000 - 1,200 yard year than we trade him and a second rounder to move up and get a qb next draft. Ricky won't have real trade value getting 5-8 carries per game. Pad his stats and dump him on someone.

Let Ronnie get broken in slowly this year, and next year this will be Ronnie's team.

just my thoughts...
