Ronnie Brown vs. Terrell Owens

i was waiting for this thread to show up, its two different situations. Ronnie's situation has been been quiet, he hasn't been bashing the organization and the organization hasn't been taking shots at him. It's just two sides agreeing on money...

Im just curious I see alot o f people backing Ronnie Brown in his decision to not sign a contract and to ensure that he gets his fair market value. But at the same time I see all these people criticizing T.O for wanting renegotiate his contract for more money isnt it a similar. I mean at least T.O has proven that he is worth the money. Just want to hear people thoughts on the 2 situations. I dont want to hear about T.O's personality because we all know that his personality is not his strong point but playing football in the NFL is.

Not the same situation, however, I can see both sides of the TO thing...he signed a contract last year with the Eagles without anyone putting a gun to his head...(even if it was that he really wanted out of SF really bad that he signed just to make the trade)...so the Eagles, in this case made a prudent move to get him signed to a LT contract. On the other hand, TO is a special talent who has proven he is worth more than what his contract states and wants to improve on that...

With Brown, although he hasn't proven anything yet, he was the 2nd player taken this past draft...following the protocol from previous years, he should, in theory at least, be the second highest paid rookie...The 49ers set the bar with Smith. The Fins have only them to blame for the predicament they are in with Brown...I can also see the Fins side of this, that Smith is a QB and rightfully (or at least thru recent history) the QBs will get more money than most other positions...I tend to side with the Fins on this one, but I'm not the one who will miss out on the 2 or 3 mil dollars that is being contested...

Owens 100% wrong?? He is one of the top 3 recievers in the NFL, arguably number 1, got his team to the Superbowl last year yet he isnt even getting paid in the top 10 at his position. Yet you will side with someone who has never played a down in the NFL??

:shakeno:

TO said...I will play this number of years for you at this price. The Eagles took him at his word and structured their future plans based on that word. Then TO says... I changed my mind, I know I promised, but I dont care. I want more money.

Brown is saying... I will play this number of years for you at this price.

Now if the Phins agree and Brown goes back on his word and asks for more money, then yeah, he is just a big a slime as TO. Until that happens though the 2 situations are completely different.

A few years? T.O. signed last year and what bothers the average fan like me is - how many jobs allow you to sit out from work one year into a contract regardles of the amount and not come back until your boss gives you a raise because you did better than you thought you would.

As much as it's gonna suck for you to hear this, the difference is there's a million people who could replace you at your job, and there's only a handful of receivers on the planet who could even attempt to replace Terrell Owens at his.
You have no leverage because you are infinitely more replaceable.
P.S. Don't allow that to cloud the fact that I think what T.O. is doing is completely unethical.

its not even the same circumstances...bad comparison, Phaz

Its written into every NFL contract that they can be cut due to performance, or salary cap. (if the players don't like it, get a different job)

Heres the deal with TO...

He screwed up becomeing a FA (technically his agent, but who hired his agent)

He wouldn't sign with Baltimore, further complicating things

He demanded to go to the Eagles, and he got what he wanted.

Now... he signed a multi year deal with the Eagles before last season (without a gun to his head) and knew exacty what he would be paid each year of said contract....

Let me ask all of you... is TO worth more now than when he signed his contract 1 year ago ( I say no, he's just as good but a year older and injured)

So... if TO is worth the same now as he was a year ago when he signed it, and its entirely his fault he wasn't a FA in the first place, why should the Eagles pay for his mistakes managing his career?

Ronnie is in a completly different boat, he's trying to not screw up right off the bat, its better for him to hold out now, get a deal he likes, than in the future./

:smackhead

Oh Man... I hate agreeing with a Bills fan... but I gotta this time.

Good post Losman!

TO has a contract right now, Ronnie is negotiating for a contract. If you have contract you should show up

WHat about Javon Walker then? You need to be consistent.

TO is making 9 million. Javon walker is playing for scrub money (390,000)

Javon got a 3 million dollar signing bonus and had 2 mediocre years where he played under his contract.

By your statement it doesn't matter. He has a contract he should show up. He has been payed a total of 5.4 million over the past 3 years. Thats pretty good. ;)

That's nothing compared to what some other receivers make.
