Rookie fail: No draft class had less snaps in 2013 than the Miami Dolphins

Yeah, I remember hoops talking about Kiko as well. Actually there were a few people that were talking him up, I wasn't one of them... Humility people

I actually liked our draft and I still do. Seeing the trend of our rookies not catching on till their 2nd or 3rd year (due to coaching!) i'll wait to give them a thumbs up or thumbs down. I think we have some real playmakers in the bunch in Jordan, Taylor, Sims and maybe Jenkins.
This. I could be wrong, but I still love the move up to get Dion Jordan. I still don't understand why he didn't play more, especially considering how poorly Phillip Wheeler produced this year. Jordan looked good in his limited playing time. I liked the Taylor pick a lot too. I know he came into camp with an injury that slowed his progress. Time will tell, but I do expect those two to emerge. Jordan, in particular, could become a legit pass rusher.

Dallas Thomas was a very good player at Tennessee, but was a huge first year disappointment considering the problems Miami had on the offensive line.

I think Ireland tries to outsmart everyone and tries to find the needle in the hay stack.

The reason why people love a player like Jordan and are meh on a guy like Alsonso is all about grading players based on combine numbers.

I will say that the Bills did talk about Kiko alot after the draft. Said he was not initially on their radar at all, until they went to scout Jordan, and watched tape and Kiko was all over the field. He made them look more into him and the drinking background. I am glad that the Bills picked him.

I just hope he can add 10-15 lbs to his 235 frame, and not lose any sideline to sideline ability. If he cant I think the Bills will move him to the WLB, because he was destroyed by bigger backs this year.

1. Evaluate a draft class in two to three years

2. That is on the coaching staff partly for not being able to develop

3. While you want some contributions from a draft class, doesn't show that others on the roster are simply better football players and are preventing the rooks for getting in? I am not saying that some will not bust or that they are not being developed, but there are vets that simply were playing better than the draftees.

Coaching staff has already proven they can develop players by evidence of Vernon, Matthews and Tannehill from last years class.

If the draft class isn't better than others on the roster of an 8-8 team then why are we drafting more mediocre players...because by definition 8-8 is mediocre.

Don't write this draft class off yet. Joe Philbin's biggest contribution to Green Bay over a long period of time was in developing the Offensive talent, with Aaron Rodgers, Jermichael Finley, Jordy Nelson, Greg Jennings, James Jones, being obvious successes. However, he prefers to have the rookies spending their first year learning from the sidelines and gently easing them in. He broke that philosophy in year one for Tannehill (because of the Sherman relationship) and Martin (which I'm sure he now regrets).
As a Head Coach, I think that he likes the prospect of extending his drafted talent development philosophy to the Defense, as well. It is not an accident that players like Dion Jordan, Jamar Taylor, Will Davis and Jelani Jenkins got so little playing time. This is Joe's plan and we will see what they can do next year.
Be patient. Good things sometimes take time. I'm pretty sure that Joe is operating to a different rookie time schedule than most other coaches. Time will tell if it works, but this is not an accident or poor drafting. It's a deliberate strategy.

Lets look at how many snaps they have in yr 2-3 and for which teams, then grade Jeff.....Shouright is correct snaps does not equal success

How many snaps did the rookies play in the playoff teams?

Somtimes teams have better talent and do not need to rush their rookies.

Last year was year 1 of Fins rebuild so their rookies got alot more time, just like the Bills this year.

Only problem is that besides Jordan our draft selections were at a position where we could of used help. Oline, 2nd corner, linebacker and running back weren't exactly positions of strength this year.

It's complete BS to state this regime doesn't like to rely on rookies, then in another breath chastise them for jettisoning vets like Long and Bush. You can't have it both ways.

The fact is this plain and simple. The rookies on Fins roster were simply not good enough or healthy enough to get on the field. If they were good enough, they would be out there.

This is fail by Ireland. Flat out.

The issue I have with that draft class is that we could have had Branden Albert for the second we used on Taylor.

why do we always have to make excuses and spin things? it is what it is. maybe in a couple years things will be different, but as of right now it looks like the dolphins had one of the worst drafts in the nfl in 2013.

This is an excellent point. It's not like our last draft class had a QB, DT, or WR in it. You could lay the Jordan snaps at the coaches feet. They kept playing a very mediocre Olivier Vernon over him for some reason. Everyone else in this draft class was a kicker (why draft a kicker with a 5th?) or either a healthy or unhealth scratch. The fact that Dallas Thomas couldn't get on the field with this sad Oline should tell you something. We could have used a Jordan Reed or a Corey Lemonier over that guy. Neither Taylor nor Davis had any impact when Patterson started ailing. Jeff Ireland used this draft to pick specifically on NEED. None of the guys he thought we needed contributed much of anything.

Well New England has 1 rookie starting on defense at linebacker (Jamie Collins), as well as significant contributions from Aaron Dobson and Kenbrell Thompkins.

Cincy got significant contributions from Gio Bernard and Tyler Eifert.

Indy has Hugh Thornton starting at Guard.

Denver got significant contributions from Montee Ball.

K.C. had Eric Fisher starting, plus contributions from Knile Davis.

San Diego had D.J. Fluker starting, Keenan Allen starting and Manti Te'o starting...their top 3 picks.

Philly has Lane Johnson starting, Bennie Logan starting and got significant contributions from Zach Ertz and Earl Wolff.

Packers have Eddie Lacy starting, David Bakhtiari starting and contributions from Andy Mulumba.

Panthers have Star Lotulelei starting, Kawann Short starting (both DTs on a team that ranked #2 in total defense and #2 against the run) and Melvin White starting.

Saints got significant contributions for John Jenkins, Tim Lelito, Kenny Stills and Kenny Vaccaro started.

Seahawks got significant contributions from Michael Bowie.

49ers has Eric Reid starting and got contributions from Vance McDonald.

The fact the rookies didn't play more is no coincidence. We had injuries and horrible play at different positions and those guys still couldn't get on the field. It didn't help Ireland drafted players that were hurt in college with 3 of our top 4 players ad the other(Thomas) is a bum that can't play. That was one of the worst 1st year class the Dolphins have ever had and when you consider we had 5 picks in the top 3 rounds coming in, it makes it worst that Ieland came up with what he came up with. Why stock pile picks if he's just going to trade those picks away for players that are hurt or don't have a real position? Lets face it, Jordan is a project. He might turn out all right but you draft a project at #3? then you take 2 DB's with medical issues and a guy that can't play ahead of anyone of one of the worst o-lines ever. Why do people what to defend Ireland is crazy.

Ozzy rules!!
