Rookie Signings and Camp

You mean Aponte, not Ireland. And if Martin is on any NFL team this year, the offset language will have worked.

Yeah I keep forgetting, Ireland was just the coffee guy for the past 6 years...

And I forgot that the capologist doesn't structure the contracts all she does is put up a sign showing how much money JI had left to do all the contracts huh?

Go watch hard knocks again. She was the one advocating for the offset language during Tannehill negotiations. Its already been previously confirmed that she was the driver behind that contract structure.

We are talking about contract here, which is Apontes responsibility? Pay attention now

I should have known better than to bring up up either of their names in an offseason thread.

We're talking about something that makes headlines with players threatening to sit out the season, you don't think that might grab the GMs attention?

Quite being overdramatic. No player has sat out the season over offsetting language.

I 100% sure It grabbed the GM, head coach, and owners attention. But it doesn't change the fact that it was her baby and that is her JOB here in MIA. Now I don't know if JI agreed with her or not I am sure they were on the same page if not the owner was. But I am damn sure JI didn't come up with that on his own.

If you want to talk over dramatic we do have Aponte on Hard Knocks telling Tannehill he would have to go back into the draft if he didn't sign. This offset language was clearly a big deal to both parties so I'm pretty sure the GM would have at least chimed in seeing as its his head on the line.

I agree it was probably Dawn's idea but if I'm the GM I say **** it, its not worth the trouble.

I can agree with you there I am sure he was a big part of the process.

I was talking about you being overdramatic, not our capologist. What is it with you people always trying to change the subject when you get caught talking out of your ass...

If you don't sign the contract and start missing practice time is that not a threat that you are willing to hold out?

Again, you said this was about "making headlines with players threatening to sit out the season". I said that was an overdramitic statement, and it still is. What you are talking about now - missing a practice - is completely different. I'm not going to discuss this with someone who is constantly shifting positions, so peace out.

why would any team ever sign a player WITHOUT offset language? why should any player ever be entitled to collect double what his contract calls for, after leaving one team and going to another? that constitutes a "windfall" to the player. it makes absolutely no business sense. (and i have a bachelor's of science degree in finance, and a juris doctor degree with a concentration in business law).

i absolutely agree with aponte, and any other front office that insists on offset language in every contract. it happens to be fair.

Prenuptials make perfect business sense too but some would argue its not the best way to get a marriage off on the right foot.
