As he should of course. I can see Fitz starting early on actually but expect Rosen to start at some point.

Josh Rosen QB, Miami Dolphins

Dolphins coach Brian Flores said Josh Rosen will have to "earn" his starting job.
Rosen joined the Dolphins Friday night in a trade that netted Arizona the 62nd overall pick and a fifth-rounder next year. Most assumed Rosen would immediately slot in as the Dolphins' starter and while that's still probably the case, Flores insists that decision has yet to be made. "When Josh gets here, he's got to compete for any type of role that he has here," explained the first-year head coach. "You have to earn it." Rosen struggled mightily as a rookie but didn't have much around him in Arizona. We're still anticipating Rosen will start Week 1 for the Dolphins, but it's not a given that he'll beat out Ryan Fitzpatrick, who produced a slew of 400-yard games in his brief tenure as Tampa Bay's starter last year.

There will be a "competition" from now until the 2nd preseason game.

Rosen will start the 3rd preseason game and then every regular season game (if healthy).

You can't just say we're giving him the starting QB position, but we are.

I don't agree with this at ALL. The Dolphins have until about the middle of the season to "give" Rosen the starting job and be able to get a decent look at him. Prior to that there really isn't any rush to give him anything. I would add not giving him the job and seeing how he response to that and competition is the best early evaluation this coaching staff can do regarding their latest addition.

Playing Fitzpatrick, ever, has no benefit to the team if Rosen is healthy.

6 or 8 games might be enough to get a look at Rosen, but why would you limit yourself?

I hope he earns it. He should have a case of assorted chips on his shoulder as motivation. It would be a setback if he can't beat out Fits. Unless Fits balls out

I will add this.....the smart thing to do would be for Rosen NOT to start on week one. We just drafted two Oline guys. Even if they both start and do well we're probably gonna have 4 new starters up front or at least 3. Let them gel together for a while and see how they're doing. Wilson and Grant coming back from surgery so lets see how healthy they are. We're adding a FB to the offense and we'll have to see what we do with the TE's. Starting Rosen from day one could destroy his confidence going forward.

Agree/disagree. I think they'll make him earn it, but I also think they know (or think) he probably will.

Good point.

I will qualify my previous posts by saying do not roll Rosen out there if you can't protect him and you are going to get him killed, lol.

Start Fitzmagic and let Rosen become comfortable with the players and system while the oline is rebuilt.
I think this team can win while we develop.
Rosen will likely challenge Fitzpatrick in 2020. The team will gauge him in preseason, practice and mop up duty in 2019.

He was not traded for to backup Fitz.
