I was wondering even if Sage becomes the starter , he had very limited reps in practice, and practiced mostly with K.Newson, M. Mann, Josh Davis, Alex Holmes, J. Radar who will be gone before Sunday.

Do you guys believe he knows the offense well enough to start and another issue is the timing with his receivers. I think we should still start with Gussy at least for 3-4 games so that Sage could start getting some reps with the first team and be ready by the 5th game.

I dont.. and all the Sage talk is desperation talk.

Gus will start.

Sure he knows the offense. He's been playing in it for as long as everyone else (except Frerotte), and he's been playing well. They're not running a different offense for the 2nd and 3rd stringers. From what I hear, Sage is pretty bright and it's not rocket science. Timing with his receivers might be a question mark, but that could be largely cured by practice time with the 1s over the next 10 days.

The way I judge a QB, and how well he knows the offense, revolves around how well he executes on the field on game day. Thus far, Sage has looked more comfortable, and more prepared than any QB on our roster.....

I'd even go as far to say that Sage knows it better than anyone right now. Here's another thing to remember, Sage has been working just as hard {if not harder} to make a name for himself. He's been hungrier, and working with J. Garrett this off-season looks to have made him more confident in what he's doing out there.....

It's obvious to me that we've seen all we're going to get from Frerotte / Feeley. And basically, it's not enough. We could get that kind of production from any back-up or 3rd string QB....

Sage has upside, and it's starting to show. I'd have no problem starting him, it would only help groom him better for the future. Hey, Brady had to start somewhere too you know, and although I'm not expecting Sage to be anything like Brady, he could be half as good and still be an upgrade over Frerotte / Feeley.....

Why wait???.....You've got the Bills starting Losman, and he's basically a rookie. You've got the Jets who are counting on Pennington staying healthy, and using Fiedler if anything bad happens. The only team in the AFC East that is truly secure at QB, is New England. Why not use that time to your advantage, and break in a QB of our own???...Sage???

This team is expected to finish the 2005 season ranked among the worst teams in the NFL. As much as we'd like to believe it, we're not contenders this year. It's not like we're ready to reach the Super Bowl, or even make the playoffs for that matter....

Doesn't Saban want to know what he's got in Rosenfels???....Isn't he at least curious to find out what's under the hood?? Compared to what he's seen of Frerotte / Feeley, he's certainly got to be considering Sage. I know most HC's would be, especially on a team that's rebuilding and looking for a QB to step up and take over....

You can't win football games if you can't score, and Rosenfels is the only QB on the roster who looks like he can do it on a consistant basis. Let him start, and grow from his experience, because we're not going anywhere with Frerotte / Feeley anyway.....

I'm tired of the same old. Let Sage loose!!!!

PHINZ RULE!!!

agree...Neither Feeley nor Frerotte deserve to start after their pre season fiasco. Lets see what Sage has or lets bring in Couch, or somebody else who could at least give us some hope. Right now our qb situation looks BAD!!!

Here's a link to an article by Greg Cote of the Miami Herald. While I don't always agree with Mr. Cote, I feel he is right-on with this one.

After you read it, it makes real good sense. Sounds like Saban is certainly considering Sage - he spells it out. Don't be surprised if (a) Sage goes in and finishes the 1st game -vs- Denver after a slow or unproductive start by Gus, or (b) outright becomes the starter. There is NO Reason not to start him. None.

i think if you go with a QB having in mind that he's gonna sit after 3,4,5 games then you shouldnt name him the starter to begin with. now setting up the amount of games you proposed as a time for re-evaluation of his production i'd go with that one.

sage has been with most of these guys already. its not like theyve kept him in a hole away from the rest of the starters.

i dont agree that its a bad situation. we have a 3rd QB who played well, beating out the the two in front of him.

i think we should run the ball 75% of the game with ricky ronnie and sammy and make our qb pass it like 10-12 times a game

Thats what I was thinking. Its just a shame our good wr's will go to waste that way though. Plus, you have to figure the opposing defenses will know exactly what we are doing and just stack the line against the run (which they are probably going to do anyway).

But you do have a point. When we throw more touchdowns to the other team than our own is it really even worth throwing the ball?

I think you start Gus, but Sage should be the backup. The AJ experment has failed!

this post is accurate and encouraging.

both gus and sage are backup QBs. this year sage had better preseason numbers of the two. sage, right now, is the better of the two backup QBs.

I been saying for over 2 years now that Sage should get his shot, I was just a lot, lot more vocal about it last year when I didn't like what I was seeing from Feeley. I still don't understand, why in the hell would you not even consider him, I mean even if one of the other QB's was playing well, Sage should not be out of the equation. It's not like we already had a proven starter on the team, so it just makes no sense to me what so ever to not give everybody a fair and equal shot.

Only one problem with your theory, we don't have Ricky for four games and Brown has yet to prove he is up to the task to carry the team on his back and Sammy never proved it last year. IMO in order for Brown to be effective and become comfortable to the offense he has to have the QB who can mix up the offense so the defense isn't keying on the run.
