Rosenfels & Knowledge of the Offense

Only one problem with your theory, we don't have Ricky for four games and Brown has yet to prove he is up to the task to carry the team on his back and Sammy never proved it last year. IMO in order for Brown to be effective and become comfortable to the offense he has to have the QB who can mix up the offense so the defense isn't keying on the run.

There's more than 1 problem with it. First we get back to that last season when Ricky ran waaaaay to much and it burnt him out (let's leave out all the inuendo's, ok) - you will waste a back doing that. Secondly, the defense keys on the run and can stop you on 75% of your plays. Lastly, and most important in this situation is that your QB doesn't get a chance to improve his mechanics in this system or with the receiving corps. If it is a building season then we need to build and do it with some sense of having it fit into the big picture.

The way I judge a QB, and how well he knows the offense, revolves around how well he executes on the field on game day. Thus far, Sage has looked more comfortable, and more prepared than any QB on our roster.....

I'd even go as far to say that Sage knows it better than anyone right now. Here's another thing to remember, Sage has been working just as hard {if not harder} to make a name for himself. He's been hungrier, and working with J. Garrett this off-season looks to have made him more confident in what he's doing out there.....

It's obvious to me that we've seen all we're going to get from Frerotte / Feeley. And basically, it's not enough. We could get that kind of production from any back-up or 3rd string QB....

Sage has upside, and it's starting to show. I'd have no problem starting him, it would only help groom him better for the future. Hey, Brady had to start somewhere too you know, and although I'm not expecting Sage to be anything like Brady, he could be half as good and still be an upgrade over Frerotte / Feeley.....

Why wait???.....You've got the Bills starting Losman, and he's basically a rookie. You've got the Jets who are counting on Pennington staying healthy, and using Fiedler if anything bad happens. The only team in the AFC East that is truly secure at QB, is New England. Why not use that time to your advantage, and break in a QB of our own???...Sage???

This team is expected to finish the 2005 season ranked among the worst teams in the NFL. As much as we'd like to believe it, we're not contenders this year. It's not like we're ready to reach the Super Bowl, or even make the playoffs for that matter....

Doesn't Saban want to know what he's got in Rosenfels???....Isn't he at least curious to find out what's under the hood?? Compared to what he's seen of Frerotte / Feeley, he's certainly got to be considering Sage. I know most HC's would be, especially on a team that's rebuilding and looking for a QB to step up and take over....

You can't win football games if you can't score, and Rosenfels is the only QB on the roster who looks like he can do it on a consistant basis. Let him start, and grow from his experience, because we're not going anywhere with Frerotte / Feeley anyway.....

I'm tired of the same old. Let Sage loose!!!!

PHINZ RULE!!!
I hate to say this, but I tend to agree. While going with Sage over Gus would be a risky move, Saban's got to be wondering at this point "what do I have to lose?". I say the hell with it and let's see what's behind door number three.

both gus and sage are backup QBs. this year sage had better preseason numbers of the two. sage, right now, is the better of the two backup QBs.

Problem is, all THREE of our quarterbacks are backups...

Trying to be cute at the QB position at this point is foolish. We will not find a diamond in the rough and do not have one on our roster. The smartest thing the Dolphins can do is go with Frerotte and try to build some offensive continuity with him as the starter. A circus at the QB position will be the most detrimental thing to this team. We need 1 starter and we need to stick with him barring injury. Both Gus and AJ haven't been very good in the preseason. They've both shown flashes but AJ has had more NEGATIVE plays which was his biggest flaw last season. Maybe he can't change that. Gus has shown he can be a game managing type QB in the past. He's the safest option right now.

There is no way in holy hell that Rahan Davey or Tim Couch will come in here and save 2005. Just put that out of your minds guys.

I dont.. and all the Sage talk is desperation talk.

Gus will start.

:yeahthat: ... If Saban diecided to start Sage instead, it would smack of desparation, not discipline!

It's not really true that Gus has had fewer negative plays. Gus threw 1 pick and had 2 fumbles, one of which was returned for a TD. AJ had no fumbles and 2 INTs, one of which was returned for a TD. In roughly the same number of attempts, Frerotte was sacked 5 times to Feeley's 1. By my count, that's more than twice as many negative plays for Frerotte (8) than Feeley (3).
