Ross is going to speak.....This should be good!

On what planet is saying "Ideally, we'd like to hire a young Don Shula" a dumb statement? Don Shula is the winningest coach in NFL history (and quite frankly, I don't think anyone will ever match 347 wins), certainly the greatest our franchise has ever had. Why WOULDN'T you want to hire a young Don Shula?

That's just such a weird thing to criticize him for. That's exactly what I'd want him to say.

Because it makes him sound like he doesn't know what he wants. A "Young Don Shula" is a cliched way to say, I want a really great coach. Well, duh, don't we all!? He doesn't know what he wants. He wants exciting football, yet goes all in on a defensive, run-first coach. He speaks out of both sides of his mouth. His football knowledge is so thin that he has to resort to describing his coach search in very superficial terms.

So you would rather he come out and say "Yeah, we want to hire a coach who is currently an offensive coordinator and runs the West Coast Offense?" and paint himself into a corner there?

Zuhhhhhhh.

Im sorry Ross lovers, but perpetually making comments like "Young Don Shula" and "Future Hall of Fame Coach" really looks silly when the guy strikes out every time he tries to get a guy he likes. Obviously, he wanted Fisher, and lost. He doesn't know what he wants. He just wants a Hall of Famer. Well Sherlock, so does everyone else!
maybe he should say something really stupid like... I hope we get the next dave Wannstedt? I don't know about you, but I don't have a problem with our new owner tossing out names as examples of the qualities of the personel he'd love to bring to this team.

Thank you Bill. . . Still some sanity here smh

The only words I want to hear from him are : "I'm selling the team"

I want him to have some kind of vision for this franchise. If he wants exciting football, say so, and seek out candidates that match that vision. I don't want an owner to insult my intelligence by throwing out names like Don Shula to put me in some kind of aqua and orange trance...

dropping names like shula around this fan base is fine...it gets your attention...but sayin stuff like i won't be outbid when you should have learned last year with these ego maniac coaches its not always about money but feeling like they genuinely want you etc comes across as you don't really care about them as individuals and these top level candidates have other options and see through it

for such a businessman he's awful with media relations...

We already look like idiots already anyways, so who cares.
Now comes the media spin . . . Come on, like Fisher or not, Ross was in 100% on him. He showed this by stopping all interviewing and putting the full court press on by offering big numbers. If he wasn't, he would have been talking to other candidates and exploring all options. Other than Philbin, I have no idea who he'd be planning on talking to that's still in the playoffs? Fisher is going to take NO's DC and beyond him, I'm not sure who else is out there. How about Chud, Billick and some others just sitting and waiting? Doesn't hurt to at least talk to them and compare candidates. While I like Philbin as an option, I'm worried he's going to untouchable for a while and meanwhile all other coaches start to sign with teams. And in the end perhaps Philbin has a change of heart because of his personal tradegy and decides to stay in GB. Would we look like idiots passing on everyone waiting for someone who might not leave?

Obviously, he wanted Fisher, and lost.

Ross didnt want Fisher bad enough, or else he would have given Fisher the personnel control he wanted.

Fisher lost out because Miami was his first choice, but he took his ball and went home because he didnt get his way.

Not sure I agree with the "He wanted Fisher and lost". Fisher was a strong canidate but it had be be on Ross's terms, not the other way around. That does not mean he lost.

Is there anything to this rumor of "mystery candidates" being interviewed? Have we possibly reached out to college coaches? Perhaps Ross hasn't told the media everything. Would it be possible to lure a big name college coach?

and there it is......

Nublar, I have never heard you utter even a single criticism against the Dolphins in all the years you have posted here. You must have a full supply of aqua & orange Kool-Aid in your kitchen cabinet...

The latest reports state that Ross thought that Fisher agreed with the organizational structure... He is clueless as to why Fisher chose Rams over Dolphins.
