Ross pushing for Tannehill?

I think Ben Volin said it pretty good in regards to this story.

Completely on the other side is the Miami Herald, which reported through an unnamed team source that Ross has unequivocally not told Ireland whom to draft.

It’s impossible to know who is telling the truth. A lot of this could be a pre-draft smokescreen designed to encourage a team to trade up above Miami’s eighth pick. But on the surface, it’s hard to believe Ross would order Ireland to draft a player with the goal of selling tickets in mind – especially in this case.

Ross didn’t order Ireland to do whatever it took to sign Flynn or trade for Tim Tebow, even though those two players would have brought excitement to the team and help sell season tickets. He’s allowed Ireland to take a patient approach in free agency.

“We want consistency here,” Ross said last month. “I want to be in the playoffs every year. I want to be in the hunt, and you’re going to do that with consistency. You’re going to do that in the draft. You’re going to do that by being smart and having the right people there. I think we’re building a nucleus of that.”

But now, with the “damage” of the offseason already done — really, how could the Dolphins’ national perception get any worse? — Ross is going to order Ireland to abandon his principles and take Tannehill? And Ross supposedly thinks Tannehill is the guy who’s going to sell tickets and bring a buzz back to Sun Life Stadium? A guy who started just 19 games in college, needs at least one year on the bench to develop and can go anywhere in South Florida without being recognized?

It would so easy to play Florio with misinformation. He will lap up anything at all that he can use to write a negative aritcle on the dolphins. Unfortunately, professional journalism has been dead for a while. When sensationalists like Florio, Skip Bayless and Stephen A Smith are looked at by the masses for information, you know that most of the things put out there just need to be ignored. Its all about getting the most hits or twitter followers now, so people report anything as quick as they can, verification be damned.

Not saying this article isnt true but I will never take 95% of the things being reported as valid. If anything, I will side on the herald on this one.

IF this is true, Stephen Ross has not a clue about football. Imagine if someone jumped ahead and snagged Tannehill because everyone knows the owner liked him. Unreal.

imo, it would be dumb for a team to "jump ahead and snag Tannehill" simply because a report surfaced that the Dolphins owner wants him. Teams need to draft based on their needs, not draft based on what another team wants so that that team misses out on that player. Wouldnt be smart or make sense.

I personally don't buy the story, but if it is true then Mr. Ross needs to sit back and trust the judgement of Philbin and Sherman when it comes to QBs. It's been a while since we've had guys with experience in developing quarterbacks, and I don't want an owner to override them. It's his team, but he's not a football guy.

i really hope it is a bluff because otherwise the dolphins are really going to be screwed until ross sells the team or croaks.

Football is incredibly interesting to me, how gm's operate, & all about the players and coaches but the owners????

There is no bigger kill-joy for me than continuing to read about what ross says or wants and knowing he is the dolphins owner. Huizinga & the nfl screwed up. They should not have allowed the sale to ross. He is exactly the type of owner who does not know, understand or appreciate the legacy of america's most popular sport.
This!!!!!

Here we go again, If Tannehill is great Ireland will take responsibility, if he tanks Ireland lovers get to say Ross made the pick.

couple nuggets from peter king this morn...says that although salguero disputes that ross wants tannehill he got a call this morn from a source that says that ross is in fact telling ireland he wants tannehill...second king said he's heard that while sherman likes tannehill he is not standing on the table for him

but king also says seattle will jump on tannehill at #12 if he gets there and i just don't buy it...

The story sound bogus to me. The only reason Ross would push to draft Tannehill at 8 is because he believes he can be a franchise QB.. But if his own GM doesn’t share that same belief then where is the Thill hard on coming from?

do it or find another job is what i would be saying to jeff ireland

Oh my god, here we go again with the "he's a billionaire so he smarter than the world" bull****. Get a reality check. This guy may know business, but he knows **** about football. The guy is a ****ing moron when it comes to football. He bought the team to rub shoulders with the "in crowd" because he is a ****ing geek who needs to "get a life."

Damn, Dr. Phil. Glad you have the psyche of a billion dollar owner down. When is your day time talk show starting?

Tannehill isn't worth a TOP 10 pick. The team that jumps for him, will have a cheaper version of Sanchita.

You may be right, taking a QB that high is risky when they have so few college starts. However there are a few things in my mind that make it far less riskier with Tannehill. 1st Tannehill seems to be a proto-typical type of QB as far size and arm strength. 2nd with the rookie pay scale in place now the risk seems to be far less. I'm pretty sure if a similar pay scale was in place for Sanchez the Jets would have totally moved away from him this off-season.

Sanchez had way more productive season at USC and not to mention cam out better program yet still struggles at NFL level. I'm not saying Tannehill can't be a Franchise QB but he isn't worth top 10 pick.
