Ross to pay for renovations?

Since he obviously is capable of doing this it annoys me that the renovations have been held up for so long with him wanting someone else to pay for it. And unless you dig a hole, I am really wondering how we get seats closer to the field.

Heat and Marlins stadiums are also tax-exempt.

How dare Ross have the nerve to ask for this lol

Dolphins will be staying put for a long time. Not a fan of the canopy though, wish they build something permanent instead of glorified tent.

Maybe some of the other Part Owners can pitch in and spread out a few mil to help out ...

Seeing an alert on WSVN that Ross will pay 400 million of his own cash. Looking for details now.

Edit:

A person familiar with the situation says Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross is set to announce he's going to pay for up to $400 million in renovations to the team's stadium, which will help keep South Florida competitive in bidding for Super Bowls and college football's championship games.

The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Monday because Ross hasn't spoken publicly about his plan. The person said Ross is talking with Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez about the plan.

The person said Ross has decided to pay for the work himself because Super Bowl applications are due in August and he wants to get the process started. Renovations will include a canopy to shade seats that are now exposed.

First of all, Stephen Ross just sponsored a bill that would require stadium renovations (on any stadium in FL) to exceed $100 million before the state would allow any tax relief.

Second, the $400 million in stadium renovations that Ross is offering to pay himself is part of an agreement where the stadium would be exempt from property taxes ($4 million per year): http://www.miamiherald.com/2014/03/10/3986404/miami-dolphins-sun-life-stadium.html

No matter how you look at it, it will be at least partially funded or offset with public money.

All I can say is, the damn seats had better be moved closer to the field!!!!

Just don't turn our stadium into a dome!!!

I hope the 400 million includes a canopy.... Canopy to me is more important than the seats moving closer to the field.

Pfft. Kinda meaningless. That garbage stadium needs to be blown to bits and a new one rebuilt.

Don't disrespect Joe Robbie like that. That comment is disgusting.

Screw the canopy and bring back the 1pm games. That's for the business and corporate sissies that can't handle the heat and the rain.
Closer seats to the field? Now you're talking.

Just for the sake of argument: Did Ross see that David Beckham was paying for an MLS team out of pocket, and he is doing this because he doesnt want to look like an ass?

Why not make a canopy that is retracting... Similar to the marlins stadium... Just need to add the rails and some huge pillars to support it when it's open...

Thank you Spesh for pointing out the elephant in the room. Ross is worth somewhere $5 billion dollars, yet he was crying poverty when it came to these renovations. Renovations for a stadium he owns. A stadium he charges you to park at. A stadium he charges you an almost criminal mark up on food and beverage. A stadium he charges you to enter, and if not enough enter he will make sure the "hometown" team is not on hometown tv. This billionaire wanted you to pay for his toy, and then make you pay to watch him play with it. I celebrate the fact that this renovation is happening, but in no way will I celebrate Ross or his scumbag move.
