Ross vetoed trade for orton for 4th rnd pick

So all those in the offseason begging for a new QB like Orton can suddenly proclaim Ross as a great owner because he meddled in the football operations and said no. If he meddled once it will happen again with a lot of you moaning about it.

Between this and the supposed Sparano remark that "Columbo is not the problem with the OL", I'm begginning to believe the rumors that this franchise is cursed. Top to bottom.

I just can't find a way to defend this move (again, *if* true). If you have no faith on your front office, you're not fit to be the owner of the team, unless *you* become the GM and stop having figureheads and yes men around. Take the bull by the horns if you think you're so smart.

I don't really see why we're congratulating our owner on vetoing a football move when, after all, we are 0-3. And him vetoing this move doesn't mean that he is going to oversee the finding of a solution at QB, it may be that he was dumb enough to believe that we could be successful with the proven terrible QB we have.

The Orton lovers are still among us in sheep clothes. This was a good veto, if you don't agree then check your reality.

I think you have to at least consider the possibility that Carl Peterson has been advising Ross, and suggested he be careful to not let this regime leave the next one hamstrung in the event they are unsuccessful this year. I hope that is the case.
I think that's a distinct possibililty.

Essentially the advice could've gone something like this: "Give these guys a year to sink or swim with the guy they selected [Henne], and don't let them undermine the next regime in advance by tying it to a quarterback it may not necessarily want."

If Orton were signed for long-term, guaranteed money, it could singlehandedly dissuade a good coach (i.e., Cowher, Gruden) from taking the job.

The Good
Ross is not allowing our lameducks to mortgage the future, bloat the cap and slap a potential bandaid fix (if that) on the team. They've had "fun fun fun, but now daddy's taken the TBird away." I'm beginning to think he's not as clueless as everyone believes since he said no to overpaying for a QB with a 3-10 record over the last 13 games, a sub 62QBR career 3rd down rating who's derisively known among his fanbase as "3andOut Orton."

The Bad
Ross is meddling in football operations although there might be some extenuating circumstances like all the FA and drafted bozos he's paid who've filtered through Davie like a sieve. Also could be that he doesn't care what these brainiacs think. Either way though, it's not a good precedent to be setting although if I were Ross with little to show for these guys' decisions, I admit I might be tinkering also.

The Ugly
I dunno, maybe Tony and Ross physically, but either way, it seemed to go with the other 2
:idk:

Good stuff.

It's entirely possible that Ross will meddle less when he has the braintrust in place he wants.

Remember, Ross walked into something that was already up and running himself. Parcells and his group were here when Ross bought the team. Ross didn't select his own guys.

The meddling may be only something he feels he has to do now until he gets the braintrust he wants in place, and maybe only with regard to a long-term contract at a key position (QB).

In other words, this meddling may reflect a highly specific situation and not something that has much of a chance of happening long-term.

sorry, but its hard to believe all this.

any of it!!

for most of the last couple months it was reported by both espn and nfl network that ORTON HIMSELF wouldnt agree to the deal, that it never got to the broncos brass. no meetings over contract. orton was being dissed by the broncs and he knew it, he knew tebow couldnt beat him out and he had something to prove. he knew if he could stall till training camp, they would see letting him go and NOT giving him the contract he wanted was a bad idea. so he kept the finz at bay, not agreeing to ANYTHING they came up with.

and he was right! tebow absolutely stank in camp and pre season and kyle got his deal.

this just sounds like some hack needing to up his story quota. it doesnt make sense. expecially for the fact that wasnt a whole lot to pay for a starting qb.

nope, this is b.s.

so we have learned that ireland and sparano will throw money away no matter what, and that ross is hands on and careful to who he gives money to, good move ross, now do another one and get a better regime in here

So what?????? We would still be 0-3 if Orton had replaced Henne.

Agree and I'm not sure Orton is any better than the way Henne is playing this year. Henne looks a heck of a lot more comfortable than last year and I don't think we'd be anything other than 0-3 with Orton. Orton isn't a top 10 QB - if we aren't talking about a top 10 QB then no sense making any trade of that magnitude.

I agree.
To me Ross tightening up the purse string simply means that he is done with Sparano and maybe Ireland.
Ross tried and failed to get the coach he really wanted in Harbaugh. Without that he was forced to come back to Sparano. Since the lockout changed the dynamics of the offseason Peterson probably advised him to pull back and wait until a full offseason happened so they can get the guy they really want instead of change for the sake of change.
The reconciliation was an illusion and the extra year for Sparano was essentially a pay off for Sparano to return to the lame duck role.

We all felt that we were a decent Qb away from being an upper echelon team. I think we can all admit that is not true. In that sense I an happy he vetoed the trade. Perhaps Orton could have gotten a couple wins for us, but being an 8-8 and 9-7 team saddled with two Qb's that a new regime doesn't necessarily want makes no sense.

Sparano is definitely gone the only question remaining is will Ireland join him.

i agree 100%. as this plays out it becomes more clear. i believe ireland returns at this point UNLESS, Ross is FORCED to let ireland go, simply because he wants gruden or cowher badly enough and they refuse to come on board without their own personal guy. personally i actually believe Ross made the correct call on this all the way around, even in spite of the fact we want a winner. sparano was never coming back and thats ok. it certainly does show on the field, but imo it was the best option available. perhaps starting 0-3 is the best thing that could have happened so the whole situation doesnt get diluted with some measure of success - say backing into the playoffs with a 9-7 record or something.

its just best for the future that sparano isnt around, and the team is under the cap and filled with younger players. if we find a franchise QB, we are going to be ok.
