So all those in the offseason begging for a new QB like Orton can suddenly proclaim Ross as a great owner because he meddled in the football operations and said no. If he meddled once it will happen again with a lot of you moaning about it.
I think that's a distinct possibililty.I think you have to at least consider the possibility that Carl Peterson has been advising Ross, and suggested he be careful to not let this regime leave the next one hamstrung in the event they are unsuccessful this year. I hope that is the case.
Good stuff.The Good
Ross is not allowing our lameducks to mortgage the future, bloat the cap and slap a potential bandaid fix (if that) on the team. They've had "fun fun fun, but now daddy's taken the TBird away." I'm beginning to think he's not as clueless as everyone believes since he said no to overpaying for a QB with a 3-10 record over the last 13 games, a sub 62QBR career 3rd down rating who's derisively known among his fanbase as "3andOut Orton."
The Bad
Ross is meddling in football operations although there might be some extenuating circumstances like all the FA and drafted bozos he's paid who've filtered through Davie like a sieve. Also could be that he doesn't care what these brainiacs think. Either way though, it's not a good precedent to be setting although if I were Ross with little to show for these guys' decisions, I admit I might be tinkering also.
The Ugly
I dunno, maybe Tony and Ross physically, but either way, it seemed to go with the other 2 :idk:

I agree.
To me Ross tightening up the purse string simply means that he is done with Sparano and maybe Ireland.
Ross tried and failed to get the coach he really wanted in Harbaugh. Without that he was forced to come back to Sparano. Since the lockout changed the dynamics of the offseason Peterson probably advised him to pull back and wait until a full offseason happened so they can get the guy they really want instead of change for the sake of change.
The reconciliation was an illusion and the extra year for Sparano was essentially a pay off for Sparano to return to the lame duck role.
We all felt that we were a decent Qb away from being an upper echelon team. I think we can all admit that is not true. In that sense I an happy he vetoed the trade. Perhaps Orton could have gotten a couple wins for us, but being an 8-8 and 9-7 team saddled with two Qb's that a new regime doesn't necessarily want makes no sense.
Sparano is definitely gone the only question remaining is will Ireland join him.
