When media members high five when the Dolphins miss out on the playoffs and based on game picks La Canfora had us going 0-16 and Heath Evans had us at 2-14, people still wonder why fans think there is a media bias against the Dolphins. Rotoworld trashed the Dolphins last season, not surprising they would trash them again this year. Jason Cole and David Canter couldn't retweet this rotoworld link fast enough and were giggling over it.

Evan Silva blocked me on twitter when i kept calling him out as a pats fan boy and dolphin hater.

I wonder if Silva ever got the love stains of Zach Sufeld and Kenbrell Thompkins off of his face? All he did in 2013 was slurp them dry

It is amazing how Miami is always the worst in terms of quarterback, head coach, GM and owner. Yet, never are the worst team(with the exception of 2007).

The team with the worst owner, worst GM, worst HC, worst quarterback, worst roster, worst locker room, worst stadium and worst fan support still won 8 games and were one victory from the playoffs. Amazing!

Well i'm glad we hold ourselves to high standards. I'm tired along with many other fans of consistently seeing this mediocre **** on sundays. We can't even suck well enough to get a good pick in the draft... tisk tisk the rough life being a dolphins fan.

I notice all the criticism is directed at just one side of the ball...

finally an article that is 1000 percent accurate. philbin is an absolute joke and if hes a leader we still play our home games at the orange bowl. keeping this guy will cost us yet another year of mediocrity to being really bad. thanks again ross.

Did you hear Jermichael Finley talk about Joe Philbin in the lead up to the Super Bowl? Jermichael is coming back from surgery and is not certain to be back in Green Bay next season, so he wants to keep some options open, re other teams that could be interested and Miami is considered one that could be a possible landing place.
Anyway, Finley spoke very highly of Coach Philbin and said that he would want to play for him again. Finley was asked what was Joe good at and his immediate response was the preparation. He went over and over and over the key routes and nothing was ever left to chance and when you thought it was all done Joe would want to go through it one more time. Jermichael seemed to suggest that a key reason behind winning the Super Bowl was the extreme level that the Offense was prepared. Nothing was left to chance.
I was actually very surprised how well he spoke of Philbin. Maybe he's just looking for a new team, but maybe he was being totally honest. If Keller's recovery is going to be slow Finley could be a decent addition if healthy. He is clearly a fan of Joe's.

#1 he might be looking for a job.

#2 Philbin is awful when his preparation doesn't work out. Other teams are prepared also. His adjustments are non existent.

25. Joe Philbin
Career Record: 15-17 (.469)
With The Dolphins Since: 2012

You might think that, like Garrett, it’s not clear what Philbin does. You’d be wrong. It is clear. Nothing. Philbin does nothing. Philbin is a former offensive coordinator who didn’t call plays even when he was an offensive coordinator. He doesn’t know how to hire assistants. He doesn’t know who to feature on offense. He doesn’t know how to handle a PR crisis. He does know how to project the personality of a cantaloupe that’s learned how to talk. Maybe Philbin’s value added to the Dolphins is immense behind the scenes. His starring role on Hard Knocks wouldn’t suggest that, but work with me. But even if that were true, could it possibly be worth the ineptitude he’s shown on the sideline? Hiring Mike Sherman? Featuring Daniel Thomas? Having no clue how to get to the ball to his No. 1 receiver or keep his quarterback upright? With a playoff berth on the line, Philbin’s team combined for seven points in Weeks 16 and 17. It generated 24 first downs. That would get you fired five times in Cleveland. In Miami, it wins you a power struggle with the general manager. Philbin’s off-the-field victory will ultimately prove pyrrhic for the Dolphins on it.

I went to college with the wrong degree in mind. I would LOVE to be in the position of the author of this opinion piece. A completely worthless article (even if Philbin was ranked #1) that has no affect on life in any way and he gets paid to write it. That is a dream.

It's awesome how Dennis Allen is ranked #23. He of the 8-24 record in two years. Chip Kelly and Bruce Arians, guys of a whole 1 season of coaching, are ranked 6 and 8. Somehow Marc Trestman is ranked 13th despite going 8-8. Philbin was 7-9 and 8-8, how can Trestman be ranked so much higher when it's basically the same result?

For the first time perhaps ever I agree with Rotoworld. Phailbin is a terrible head coach and shouldve been canned. This organization took a half step guaranteeing another year of mediocre at best play.

You agree with the article that says Gus Bradley, who was 4-12 with the Jags, is ranked 18th!? Above John Fox and Mike Smith?

We should have canned this guy at the end of the year. There really isn't anything he's done that exceptional.

What sold me on Philbin's mediocrity (or worse) as a coach were how we came out after long weeks - after our BYE and after 10 days off a few weeks later - we lost both games by a lot. Showed me all I needed to know.

You're referring to the games at home vs. Buffalo and at Tampa Bay right? Do you realize Buffalo won by 2 and Tampa Bay by 3? How is that losing both games by a lot?

How is anyone arguing with Roto? Philbin has been awful these last 2 year, he is a statue on the sidelines, he doesnt make adjustments. With needing 1 win in the last 2 games his team scores 7 points. Should of been fired.

How can Gus Bradley be ranked higher than him? He was 4-12.

I guess I really just wanted to see what Philbin can do without Ireland for a season. We all know Ireland was hot garbage.

As much as we didn't care for Sherman, and I was a huge cheerleader for canning his buttocks, he did design some great packages that were elemental in the 8 games we did win. Once you get into the 2nd half of games, you're out of tricks and these other teams were just able to feast on our talent weaknesses and crush us.
Obviously, letting Clabo go 1-1 vs Mario Williams on a key 3rd down (that led to the sack-fumble that doomed us in that game) was a horrible call, even if it was an audible by Tannehill to pass instead of hand off in that situation (it shouldn't have been the QB's choice there). As an OC, though, you can't think that every play your call is going to 'trick the opposition', or that your talent is gonna cause you to lose every play. Sometimes you just have to give your team a chance to physically beat the other team. Miami just failed to do that too many times in key parts of games. In a lot of our attempts to be creative, our players, because of talent deficiency, were just unable to excecute. Sherman had to be like "OMG, how could you F that up?"

I don't want Sherman back, but I guess cutting him a little slack at this point just seems sane. We've got new guys that Philbin likes (that have good reps around the league).

Besides, this RotoWorld article makes me think of that line from Animal House: "Hey, he can't do that to our pledges! Only we can do that to our pledges!"
