Rotoworld: Shazier unlikely to make it past Fins at #19

Nice Pick, but don't you want Tannehill to stay upright this year, do you remember those 58 sacks? the opposing linebacker hit Tannehill on some of those sacks RT should be the number once priority even if one is not available when they pick.

I don't see how you can draft someone who is not available.

There will be RT's available at 19 - just a matter of how good.

A RT who starts from Day 1 as a rookie will be drafted at or after 50 (not necessarily by Miami). We just have to make the right pick.

Nope....not happy about it...don't think Shazier will be successful on Miami current defense

Am i the only one who thinks LB isn't a huge need. Misi and ellerbe are good. Wheeler is better then he played year and we have jenkins. It's a need but not huge

This.

Sure, we can upgrade. But people make it seem like we have a paper towl at LB.

Misi and Ellerbe are fine. If Wheeler can't step it up we have Jenkins to rotate in. Maybe pick up a LB in the 3rd or so. (Telvin Smith, Crisitina Jones)

He relies way too much on his athletic ability to make plays.... he has no real instincts as a linebacker and I think will be a huge bust. He's too small and get blocked to easily in the run game. He's good in coverage and chasing plays down from the weakside but that's it. Not worth the pick and I think will be a hygh disappointment for whatever team drafts him

I have a lot of respect for the Top 100 on Draftace.com. 2nd ranked board by huddlereport.com. They have Shazier as the #10 player on their board. You can like or dislike the player/position, but I dont think calling it a reach is valid.

In terms of our overall needs, I tend to agree. We have way more pressing ones, in the Oline, and some true playmakers at either TE or WR or RB. I don't think we need to slove our LB need in the first round. However I'm still of the opinion that you take the BPA, and if that's a LBer, so be it.

Here's where you guys are missing the forest for the trees:

A player like Ryan Shazier only comes around once every 5-10 years. Look back for LB's that athletic with that kind of production. You're not going to find one in the last few drafts. They're extremely rare. Very high floor, very high ceiling.

We were TERRIBLE against the run last year, and that was primarily due to the linebacker play. We are not "Fine" at linebacker at all. That's ludicrous.

I'm with those thinking this is a smoke screen. As smokescreens go, it's fairly believable due to a need there, but still not likely happening. While I know there have been some decent Ohio St. players (even LB's), I just have a problem with it. Not to mention I don't like how they same maybe middle LB or outside LB. That makes me think he's not big enough to withstand the MLB spot over time. Not to mention, I worry about guys that were lower ranked and have all of the sudden moved up right before the draft, why? Nothing has changed except how he's perceived by some.

Has anyone noticed all the talk about moving up or down with us has died down and now all the rumors are about who we are taking at 19? So either we gave up on that or we have something in place. I think we move out of the pick, just where and which direction?

Hmmm They've also got Johnny Football down at #62 behind Mettenberger, Tom Savage, Jimmy Garropollo and Aj McCarron. I'm not sure I'm buying that. Seems a very random list tbh.

We are more "Fine" at LB than we are at O-line.

Will a LB upgrade get us to the playoffs this year? No

Will a O-line upgrade get us to the playoffs this year? Yes

O-line is a hot turd at this point, lets not kid ourselves. If not for the O-line we could of easilly won another 2-3 games.

YES, LB can be upgraded. But priority 1 is the line.

The line has been addressed with a stud at LT, we a several options at RT....we can address the OL later in the draft, the Defense is a hot mess, old and injury prone secondary, LB who suck with no depth and our run stopper plays for the Falcons now.....we have to find help for the D early in this draft....

But Shazier scares me, after reading everyone comments on his play and watching some highlights of him I wasn't impressed...he looks like safety.....nothing about his highlights jumped out at me.....hopefully Hickey does his homework and gets us help in the secondary and at LB with that pick unless there is no value there...
